Okay, sorry to start another thread, but my funds are limited and I need a lens for a new d60. I have a friend who uses a sigma 17-35 2.8-4.0 on a d30 . I was going to go with that for a wid angle but after going all through these posting I'm leary of soft images and considering the 15-30mm f/3.5-4.5 EX Aspherical DG DF Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS or 20-40mm f/2.8 EX Aspherical DG DF Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS. I am looking for the lens that will give the sharpest images on the d60.
Also I am thinking of the Canon EF 28-70mm f/2.8L USM Autofocus Lens.
Any advice from anyone who is using these lenses is greatly appreceiated.
Eric

I asked the same question as you before I purchased my new lenses. I received very good advice from this website but also looked at user reviews on the photographyreview.com consumer site. In the end I purchased the 28-70mm f/2.8L and the 70-200mm f/4L lenses. These cost around $1600 total and have excellent reviews on the website. I have only tried them a little so far but my images are very rich and tack sharp. I like them and feel happy with my purchases.

i agree with this selection, but for me my total of both these lens came to around 1,900.00 dollars.
i'd love to see the place or info that you have where you paid 1,600.00 total for both.

If you're not an '"L" glass junky', consider the Tamron 19-35 f3.5-4.5 and 28-300 f/3.5-6.3 XR. These are the lenses I use on my D30 and I like them a lot. I don't know about the D60, but I'm sure someone has tried them.

Canon has a new lense out the 24-70 2.8L. It looks to be a really great lense. Good luck.

Okay I thought I had posted earlier but it's not here so her goes again.... Thanks for the infor so far but I need more , from people who are shooting a d60 not the d30 as I am seeing here that lenses are getting different results on the two ( apparently the sigma 17-35 which has excellant results on the d30 is seeming soft on the d60 ) has anyone tried the sigma 20-40 f/2.8 ex ? I am dcosidering this lens and don't want to be sorry. I think the canon 50mm f/1.4 is a lock .
The canon EF 28-70mm f/2.8L USM is the whole budget.
Canon EF 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5 USM
Canon 50mm f/1.4 USM
Sigma 20-40mm f/2.8 EX Aspherical DG DF

or the:
CanonEF 28-70mm f/2.8L USM
???????
Any and all advice is appreceiated

On a D60, go for the Sigma 15-30mm. Superb results! I bought it 'cus it was part of a deal, thinking that I could sell it if I didn't like it and recover my costs, but there's no way I'm going to sell this puppy!

Good luck whichever way you choose.

Hi,

to whom it may concern. I bought a D60 and the following lenses:

EF 2.8/16-35 L USM
EF 2.8/28-70 L USM
EF 4.0/70-200 L USM

I can tell you that they are all great (handling and optical Quality). I had lenses from other manufacturers for testing, but they did not satisfy me. The only thing that every one should consider buying these "L"-lenses is, that they make shades in their wideangle position using the inbuilt flash.

Wow, that's some investment.
I want to thank all who had the patience and generousity to share their stuff.
The decision is for the 50mm f1.4 until I learn the camera better, and order the 24-70mm 2.8 canon. And then determine my WA needs. I'll be glad to share my experiences.
I forgot to mention that I have a Canon 70-210 3.5-4.5 USM from my canon slr. Should give enough to feel and decide my needs.

Hi Eric

May I suggest you check out a survey done on Canon lenses

http://www.cmpsolv.com/photozone/resultEOS.htm

For wide angle, I am happy (for now) with the EF20-35. After buying several lenses since July, I am now sold on the 300 f/4 L IS - but that's a whole new ball game. In about six months, I will bet that you will start looking at prime lenses, followed by IS prime lenses. A natural progression once you get hooked.

Cheers
Sheila
