28-135 vs ef-s 17-85

i was first looking at the 28-135. then while scoping around the canon website the EF-S 17-85MM f4-5.6 IS USM was noticed. it is about equal on my rebel with the 1.6 crop factor. what do you think is a better build or quality lens.

Do you already have the kit lens? Then the 28-135 would probably be a better idea.

Another thing you can consider is the Tamron 28-75/2.8 or Sigma 24-70/2.8. If you need a walk around *fast* glass.
