Hello :-),
There are a bit small to assess the sharpness and focus, though they look reasonable.
First one seems a bit underexposed and has a greenish colour cast. Focus looks pretty good, and compositionally it all seems to hang together nicely, with the green circle providing a nice grounding and focus for the image. Unusual but good choice to rotate it.
#2: Bit brighter which is good, but the yellow background isn't the most attractive shade... (might look better in real life under brighter lights... just saying in the photo). This one is more side on which is good for capturing his face, but doesn't show depth through the foreground toys/chair except through DOF/blur... makes it look a bit more like he's floating in front of the background room... that's fine - just good to be consciously aware of it. I do think having the green rim of the "chair" cut into at the bottom of the frame is distracting... the eye follows it arround and drops out of the bottom of the shot... framing with another 10-20% underneath may have worked better (i.e. a step back, crop sides in post-processing).
What's with this blackberry-like thing anyway? Why don't you get him a real PC and Linux?
Cheers, Tony

Thanks TonyD!!
I will try to do it better next time - cleaner with less distraction.
I put some kids songs on the BlackBerry and plays it so that it can catchs his attention and stay reasonablly still so that I can take those pictures. He moves a lot and I am sure he is not the only one :)

With a gray card you can create a Custom White Balance and avoid the problems of color balance.
Look on page 68 of the User's Manual for your 40D for detailed instruction on Custom White Balance.
For additional background information on Gray Cards and White Balance issues, see the following:

Though I agree with all the prevous statements, one has to realize that this is as young child being photographed. Busy backgrounds are very common in our homes during our childrens early years.
When your adjusting your White Balance, watch the tint value as your correct the WB. WB isn't just about proper kelvin readings, it is more so about the tint of the wb in the photo!
Kevin, these are very good shots. Minor issues aside your son is a very handsome young man. Keep up the good work, and let practice be your guide to improvement!

Good snaps of your son. He is adorable. I played with them and fixed your WB issues on them. If you had your "image editing ok" sign on, i could post them for you.
