Been pretty busy with freelance stuff for the local rag recently........ Here's some of the sports events i've been covering.
2 amateur football cup finals and a junior tennis tournament.
All comments welcome.
PS this is my first crack at the tennis.

Excellent work Stephen, I admired your work for a long time but I think this is as good as I've seen. You have the football shots covered perfectly and for a first time tennis shoot these are good editorial shots.
Looking forward to seeing more!
P.S - Do have a 300 f/2.8 now? or is that 3rd shot with the f/4?

Thanks very much mate! That means a lot.
I can only dream of the 300 2.8 :p My mate (who is freelance with another paper) lent me his 300 f4. I am seriously considering buying one very very soon. I enjoyed being able to sit behind the goals and let the action come to me. That being said, I do love my 70-200 2.8. It is definately my 'workhorse' lens.

Good stuff, I have the 70-200 and the 300 f/4, it is a good combo to have and I cannot recommend the 300 f/4 highly enough.
( I too dream of the 300 f/2.8 )

I certainly like your work. Makes me wonder about the f/4.
I've only shot with a 300/2.8 but it's a bit heavy to hold for an entire day. So the f/4 is attractive in that regard.
However, I've been told the AF is slow. (The 2.8 is very snappy)
How did you find the AF speed on the f/4?
If you've shot with 2.8 at all, how would you compare the relative AF responsiveness ?

Cheers for your comment.
I've never had the joy of even holding a 300 2.8 but I found the AF on the f4 awesome. Certainly couldn't complain. The more I think about it the more I want to buy it.

It's not such a joy to hold. :p
Thank you for the thoughts on the f/4. I think I might try to rent one and see for myself.

#1 looks great.
Cheers :)
I find it funny to look at. The way the ball is on his head and both of them have their eyes closed hoping for the best.

Love the look on the girl's face in number 6.

Me too. And demonstrates that you don't need the ball in the shot. I like the bit of racket motion too.
