I maybe too much of a gearhead for my own good, but how about this?

8mp, full frame, 1d 45point AF System, 8FPS, and crazy good ISO (only 8mp).

It could replace the xxD line.

Two to three years ago, this would have been great. Not with the megapixel race today.

It would make more sense to put an updated 12mp 5D sensor in such a body, with the new gapless microlenses and Digic4, it would be a beast. Unfortunately that won't happen in a Canon body, it has already happened with 2 bodies from Nikon. 8mp just wouldn't compete with the "bigger is better" mentality of today.

Maybe I don't know my specs well, but I swear you are describing within the area of the EOS-1D Mark II N.

For the novice-shooting consumer, I agree... majority think: "more the pixels, the better the camera"... which is a huge misconception. I'll take an awesome well developed lower-pixeled camera over a high-pixeled camera with crap specs, any day.

True. But what I am talking about would for it to be in a small body, and also full frame as the 1d Mark II was a 1.3 crop.

they'd have to make it better than the 1Dii'N' to even bother. That was a great camera, so just go buy one used.

Change it to 12-15 MP, and give it a 1D style "built in" grip, keep the 8 fps, add the 920,000 whatever LCD screen, and I'd be very interested. As long as the price was reasonable.

If they would price it in the $2K range (street) it would be very compelling...

In case you guys didn't know, Canon is a business and likes to make money.

Darn...really? Just, well, wow, never thought of that part...sure changes the landscape on a somewhat imaginary (allowing for the DIIN being close to the spec) piece of equipment.... :D

Well, considering this forum does like trying to think that Canon will actually put pro features in a $500 camera.

FF Sensors are kinda expensive. At least, they are if you look at the retail cost as evidence.
