My choice would be the EF-S 10-22. If you want something really special and are shooting architecture I would look into a tilt-shift lens. Do a search on this forum for EF-S 10-22 and you'll be amazed at the number of posts and the good reviews from the members.
Good luck with your search.

Many folks speak highly of the EF-S 10-22mm, but if you decide to upgrade your body someday, you may not be able to use it, as it's only for bodies that use the 1.6 crop factor sensor like the 20D.

For the 20D, you are able to use the Canon 10-22mm which goes W-I-D-E.
Or you may consider one of the fish eyes from Canon, Sigma etc.

The EF 16-35 f2.8L is one heck of a fine lens. I really like mine on my 20D.

I will second that. Nice lens, the 10mm is an amazing tool to have in the bag.
My son keeps borrowing mine for his 300D and I have to chase him to get it back, so that would be two positive votes.

17-40mm f/4L
or
16-35mm f/2.8L
Get the 10-22mm only of you need "ridiculously" wide... and can live wiht EF-S

My preference, and I use it a lot, is the 16-35 f2.8L sharp, quick, great low light performance. I love it...

EF 16-35mm F/2.8L or EF 17-40mm F/4L.

I have the 17-40 lens, but it is no wide enough if you are used to using a wide angle zoom like a 20-35 on a film camera.

How about Tokin 12-24mm F/4 constant aperture ultra WA and I hear good stories coming out with all the owners.

I am a 12-24 Tokina owner and I love it.....The reviews from people on the FM forum are all positive and it's $500.....a lot of lens with hood for a low price(compared to L lenses anyway).

I like the 10-22 as well. It's designed to give the FOV on the 20D similar to the 16-35 on a full frame camera. If you upgrade to a non EF-S camera down the road, there will still be a good market for this lens, and you might lose $100.

i'm a prime guy. for my 20d I picked up the 20/2.8. Its got a nice distance, at f8 or 11 everything is in focus, it can focus up close and its built well. it comes out to about 35 with the 1.6 but its robust and had USM.
i use it as my everyday lens.

Hell if you want wide, get the 10-22. It wont overlap what you got already. some one just forgot to paint that red stripe on it at the factory.
