I'm a beginner, obviously. This is a close pic of my daughter, taken w/ a Canon powershot on auto and "fixed" in PS. Please help me learn.

Nice shot of your daughter. It would look better I think if her head/eyes/face was tilted up a little more instead of looking down below the camera. Nice B&W, I like it :)

Welcome to the forums.

Thanks for the comment. I know I'm new here, but I DO want to learn and welcome all comments. Here is the one I took w/ her looking up.

Although the flash brings out a shine in her eyes, without that and with sufficient natural lighting would be better - it would have a softer look. I prefer the second of these because it seems more focused and it has a good composition - it's not too close in or too far out.

Only thing I can see wrong with it is that she appears to be wearing an Atlanta Braves cap...

You guys are too funny. We are DEFINITELY Braves fans!!! Although I have to admit I think she's adorable....but I may be a bit biased!

Tumbleweed... on the second shot, the catchlight in her eyes is directly in the middle of her pupils. Clone to either the 2:00 or 10:00 position on her iris and remove those centered catchlights. This is one I learned by reading the forum, and it makes a difference!
