I have read many of the suggestions on this thread and situation is slightly different.

I am not making a living selling pictures but I do love taking them and I am beginning work with models. I would like a site that allows folders/categories, password protect certain folders, and allows some customization with my name, and link with email.

It is not my intent to try and sell/market pictures but mainly have an avenue to display my work and if someone wants to buy something or hire me for a shoot that is a big plus. I prefer a site that will allos these options rather than Flikr, Photobucket, etc. because I would like to tell a little about what I do.

Smugmug sounds great but really for my needs $40.00 is a little pricey. Zenfolio is more reasonable but the account I got would be limited. I have not checked out Picasa.

Is there anything you recommend? I am ok with a nominal fee so I am not asking for free necessarily. Perhaps the $25.00 Zen would me my needs? I really want the options above if possible its just hard to pay to much when you don't expect to recover your investment. Its an expensive hobby!

Thanks.

You do know that you can get 50% off your 1st year with smugmug by using the discount code flickr and also a further $5 off by adding the code 3MDk82MhINcPg ? I know that it only applies to the 1st year, but if you have made enough from your sales in that 1st year then it might be worth continuing.

I think all of the major photo hosting places will be charging you around the same amount for the option of selling at your own custom prices. My advice to you is to check them all out, most do a 14day free trial, why not make use of it to try before you pay anything, then go with the one that best suits your needs.

Yeah, I'd go for Smugmug with the 50% off coupon. However I would recommend Smugmug Pro. It'll be around $70 with the coupon, so it's totally reasonable if you're thinking that's too pricey. However a Smugmug Pro allows for way mre customization. I just copied code from DGrin and I ended up with a much different site than the basic Smugmug one. Here's my site if you want to check it out: www.hrephoto.smugmug.com (http://www.hrephoto.smugmug.com)

I like your site, but when I click one of your images it goes to the smugmug home page.

Weird, I'm not having that problem. Is anyone else? Thanks for the heads up

tried it on my studio computer and home, in both firefox and IE. If I click on the image in your title page slide show it goes to smug mug home page.

I'm going to guess if you changed your JavaScript slideshow (in the red), to your website....that should take care of it. ;)

var ssConfig = {
AlbumID: '6817265',
newWindow: 'false',
transparent: 'true',
splash: 'http://www.smugmug.com/img/ria/ShizamSlides/smugmug_black.png',
showLogo: 'false',
clickUrl: 'http://www.smugmug.com',
showThumbs: 'true',
showButtons: 'true',
crossFadeSpeed: '350'
};

SM.flash.insertSlideshow(600, 600, ssConfig, 'transparent');

Awesome, thanks guys. I had thought you were talking about regular gallery photos, which seemed like it would be a problem on your end. Guess not though. I'll see what I can do.
