Ani and I wanted a snapshot of her at Silver Falls - Upper North Falls, this is what we took. Water in the falls blown out, no rule of 1/3s, all kinds of things wrong with it. But we like the reflection in front of her. Comments welcome of course.

Hi Mr Chevy
Thought I would have a play with this one. used Photoshop.
so first off I put some detail in the water that was well overexposed (blown out).. real simple way just cloned in from other areas with detail. also slight adjustment of levels in PS.
next I was unsure about the red bag so thought it had to go. usually red somewhere in the shot will draw the eye and i felt the beautiful face provided the necessary point of interest if you like, the red distracting slightly.so cloned out.
with the wonderful suroundings that make this a good pictorial image the composition was next in my thoughts. so cropped off left side and added about same on the right (sure you can guess how this was done). I felt moving main subject off centre was stronger.
next the burn and dodge tool was used to tone down the base of image as it was a bit bright, also darkened the top slightly in the same way traditional printers would burn in areas of sky to stop leading out of the frame.
I did crop this image .
overall the quallity needed to be better as only working with small image size .
from posting here i guess.

so thats my version I'm sure theres hundreds of ways to change an image its up to you in the end.

Cheers

thanks for your comments,
Mr Chevy had already done a good job with this photo and its easier to improve a good image than a bad one, my PS work has tried to retain all the original image plus retouching as needed & moved things around composition wise.

Cheers

Nice work on the shot Martin! You have really improved it. The way you did the work on the blown spots on the water is something I have to practice on. The crop works well too.

Thank you for working on it and re-posting!

Thanks Ken
Glad you liked my photoshop efforts.
we have some vary similar locations right here in South Wales, this type of picture is always worth recording.
I actually think your exposure was real good, yea its often a prob with keeping detail in the whites.
If you were to tripod this type of shot in future take some at different exposures, as it would be quite normal for me to work from 2 images and just drop in highlights from the picture with correct highlight exposure (using the clone tool).

Take a look at this one for detail in the whites..
view the original version if you like, it has won a couple of competitions for me this year and is used in our adverts for period linen.

Thanks for the tips Martin.

You have some beautiful shots of linen on your www! Great detail. Will have to look at them tonight on a CRT, this notebook screen just doesn't cut it!
