What have you given up for photography?

I know that for many of us, photography is a passion. It's likely not the only source of joy in life, but unfortunately we have to sometimes give something up for it. After all, it is an expensive hobby and the profession requires some starting capital. So what is it that you've given up to enjoy photography?

I confess: I love food and I enjoy expensive food. I can't tell you how many times I've thought to myself to forgo meals so that I can buy something photography related. This goes for both that snack after lunch, sometimes lunch altogether, and certainly the sushi I used to indulgently enjoy.

I've also given up time with my girlfriend on occasion to instead walk around with my camera. Keep in mind I work full time, attend law school in the evenings, and study the rest of the time. I see her once a week... if that and my camera doesn't help.

The #1 thing I've given up for photography is.... wait... lots of money!

For me, time is the biggest sacrafice I have with this hobby. With a young family at home, every moment I spend away from home is a sacrifice. There are many a Sunday morning I'd like to be out shooting, but I stay home because it's a family day. You've got to choose whats most important to you.
The best is when I can involve the family with my photography.

Money of course and a lot of time but doesn't going out and hitting a little white ball out there in the grass amount to the same thing?

No. Golf is a waste of time. Photography is not. ;)
