... i've experimented with it, it's so cool. Ever since i've received it my kit lens is sitting in the corner of my room in it's box lol!

What kind of shots is the 50mm 1.8 best for? I mean anything in particular? Flower photography? People?

I want to go out and take photos with it but i'm unsure what to shoot. Any tips?

Thanks :D

I think the magic of the nifty is that is lends itself to so many kinds of photography.

I think it's actually a tool to determine what you really need. Example... are you using it wide open to isolate features? Then you'll be leaning towards upgrading to an f/1.4 or f/1.2 In portrature, are you finding it too wide... so you're going to go for an 85mm Are you looking for wider... your wanting the 35mm or 24mm prime now.

It's a good lens for everything yet not perfect for anything!

It is the gateway drug to prime lenses.

The nifty fifty is different. Using it on a crop body like your 450D means it lends itself better to portraits rather than what that the true 50mm focal length does. But the lens itself is great. Shoot what you like with it and there's a few possible outcomes. You love the 85mm equivalent that the crop sensor gives you, so you want to stick to that. The 50/1.4 or 50/1.2L would be your next step up. Personally, I went with the other outcome and found it too long so I bought a 24 prime and I like it more.
