I see in the instructional videos of different photogs, an assistant holding a pole with a flash mounted on the top. It seems very handy, but I can't seem to find them anywhere. Is this a product that can be bought, or is it a DIY project? I tried to find a link to an example, but it is basically just a 4-6 ft pole with a speedlight attached to the end. A monopod would work, if the stud was at the other end. Any thoughts?

(This) (http://www.kaceyenterprises.com/?page_id=447) works great!
Works for Strobes in the field... For speedlights just attach your umbrella bracket of choice for full range of adjustment.

wow....that's really cool. I may have pick a couple up for assistants to hold hairlights or rimlights when the model is moving around a lot.

Thanks.. people are really digging them and coming up with all kinds of uses.
It's a great alternative to the $300 California Boom Stick (http://www.adorama.com/CF800150.html?searchinfo=California+SunBounce+Boom +Stick)

Thanks! That is what I was looking for. I just ordered one. I'll get a 4-8 ft extending pole and that will be great.
Thanks to everyone for their input. I appreciate your time and effort.:D

For what it's worth...I just got making something like this last night. Just took an old paint roller and twisted the metal roller assembly out of the grip handle. I then cut a piece of 1/4" x20 all-thread rod, slipped on a couple washers, lock washers, nuts and tighten it all down. It probably cost about $2! Oh...and I'm going to be using a ettl cord, for the time being, which comes with the threaded hotshoe adapter linked above.

Many paint roller extension poles (also light bulb changing poles) have screw on end attachments that have an angle adjustment with interlocking teeth so the angle holds tight in the same position.
It is then easy to bolt a cold shoe, or the end of an Off Camera Cord to the end of this attachment, and will then allow a full range of angle adjustments.

I was intrigued by Kacey's light pole adapters, so I bought a couple. They arrived today (quick shipping!), and I've gotta say....these things are SWEET. beautiful craftsmanship, and they secure very easily to the paint poles. I sprung for the more expensive Wooster Sherlock 6-12' poles ($25) and I now have a VERY strong, secure, and most importantly, very adjustable/positionable lightstand for an assistant to use when a subject is moving around a lot.
Great product that I'm sure will prove to be incredibly useful.

Any chance you could machine these with a small flat spot on the section that the swivel bracket clamps to?
