There's a reason that one hasn't sold - it's the same price as B&H are selling it for! (Well, with a useless UV filter thrown in :-)
But thanks for keeping an eye out for me :-)

Come join us down in sleepy hollow Mic.
I did, for about six weeks last year.
It was long enough when working in Melbourne, although I did get another couple of hours work done each day on the train :-)
And Geelong allows me to use the term "sleepy hollow" in articles, which surprises me a lot :)

Thanks to the cancellation of some electrical work on the house by my mate today, I decided to take a drive out to Natti Reserve which is part of the Burragorang State Recreation Area and see what I could see. For those who don't know, Lake Burragorang was formed when Warragamba Dam was constructed in the 60's and forms part of Sydneys water supply.
I was highly disappointed by two things:
1 - the lookout is overrun by trees that ruin almost every decent shot
2 - a lot of haze for some reason.
Anyways, here's a few shots that I took.
For my first trick, I decided to experiment with RAW and took 3 photos using each of my lenses at 3 different focal lengths and shutter speeds. This was the first one that I took and was taken using my 85mm 1.8 at 1/125 F22 ISO 100.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3309/3524490589_38f9938267_b.jpg
This shot was towards the end of my time there and was taken to show how far down the water is at the moment. Just a jpg rather than RAW using 75 - 300mm lens at a focal length of 75mm, 1/750 shutter speed, F4.5 and ISO 200 (for some reason).
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3351/3525298876_d1bb1bfbae_b.jpg
Finally, this was also just a study in how far the water has receded and hopefully you can see the trees that are usually covered by the water along the shoreline. Strangely, it kind of looks like it's been tilt shifted a little. 75 - 300mm lens at 150mm, 1/1000s, f4.5 and (again) ISO 200.

Kev, you can partially counter haze by increasing contrast and black clipping, and reducing the blue saturation.

My RAW experiments are just begining. I intend creating a monster. lol
Seriously though, the few ventures into RAW territory I have made have helped me understand a little more about the value of post processing which I think is the ultimate aim of these play arounds.
I don't think that the changes that can be made to the various picture styles on the 400D really make much of a difference at the end of the day. For instance, having the sharpness set to maximum still gives me soft images which I have to rectify later.
I used to be so dead against playing with images. I was a tad naive I think.

Aye. I still don't do a lot of PP, but recognise that it is necessary.
It's akin to developing your own film. There was stuff that needed doing in the darkroom to get the look you wanted, and there's stuff that needs doing on a computer for a digital file to get the look you want.

I'm the same as what Dave has just said. I pretty much just fix up any exposure problems and add the normal contrast/noise reduction that's needed because a RAW file is designed to be flat for the most dynamic and colour range and the like.

Well sometimes I'll do more than just exposure tweaks.
For instance, portraits get a good working over when needed (blemish removal, nip/tuck, skin smoothing).
Landscapes might get a vibrancy/saturation boost sometimes, and birds might get a little extra sharpening (although I'm usually very slack about sharpening).

Yeah, it all makes sense. I don't shoot portraits so I don't do any editing like you mentioned. But if I go round taking random photos, I'll treat each one individually and some will have more done to them than others.

Well I had my first go at some pp work on a portrait from the tut' I did earlier this month.
I still want to get the best shots I can sooc before I get serious about pp.
Anyway to the point one of the models for the tut' an elderly lady is very self conscious about an injury to her nose and is very reluctant to have her photo taken.
But for the sake of the tut' she bravely sat for shots.
All I did was remove the injury from her nose and nothing else. I will post a before and after on Thursday, mainly because I can't find the saved pp shot so may have to do it again. It is printed though ready for judging by the tutor.

Red is not a friendly colour for signs (unless said sign is a warning about something). Sydney has adopted a nice blue/gold motiff that is much more welcoming to passengers.
The thing I like about this pic is the transitioning in colour from bottom to top.

Yeh, but the signs don't make the buses any better or worse...I'd rather red signs and buses which come on time, or even just show up for that matter.
Nice angle Al, and I like the gradient in the sky.
Ps. Same thing happened up near Akuna Bay. All the lookouts are just overgrown and any wide angle lens leaves you with branches all through the foregroud.

That makes sense. I shot for my school once last year and once this year. The time this year I think I should have been paid because the person they were paying to do it died the week before the event, but they said my principal would have something against paying a student. Personally I think that was a load of bull just so they don't have to pay me but who knows.

Bought in december 06 for like 500 or so.. I'm looking for a rough figure, not spot on..

Hmmm. I liked the sky while sitting at the station tonight so I took this.
I'm not entirely happy with it so help me. It's hand held and I thought I had it focused on the sign but shake blurred the foreground.

It's only a Tax credit on the businesses company tax for the 08-09 financial year. It's not a rebate.
Eligible small businesses will benefit from the Government's Economic Stimulus Plan with a Tax Break. Under the Plan, the Government is providing direct assistance to small business through the Small Business and General Business Tax Break. What's it like? Having a stab because of the name it's 7MP, is the SW some kind of weatherproof thing? Olympus seem to like advertising that.

Nope. I've been trying to improve my shakey hands and get that shutter speed down as low as possible. iso 100 wouldn't have helped either. :P

I can, if I use a different light source :)
Here's an example. Doesn't look as nice. Works well with the two sources in conjunction though, as in my Brisbane shoot, with the Holden HQ.
Certainly doesn't look as nice, however not the look I had in mind.
Yuck no thanks Phil :p

Yeh, 7MP, waterproof to 5m and shockproof to 1.5m.
barely used the thing.. Although it's a little scratched up on the front..
I was thinking maybe like 150-200 bucks..

I'd try that. The new shockproof and waterproof ones are still around $500 anyway aren't they? Just have to get a bit of luck to find someone wanting to buy one just like that as you're looking to sell it. Maybe even try $250 to get the most out of it and if it doesn't sell, drop it down to $200.

It looks to me as if you were actually focusing on the building (shed?) in the background rather than the sign. Also, was there a reason you did it in b/w? Looks like it might have been a nice sunset shot.

Well, yesterday I was at Natti looking at Lake Burragorang, today I was in the Megalong Valley, near Blackheath, admiring impressive cliffs and wondering why anyone would choose to live so far away from civilisation. Some great photo ops down there if you are prepared to spend a full day of stop/start driving.
So far, only 3 minor images edited out. Made up 3 panoramas but they need some PP before showing off.
First image is just of some cliffs that were in total shadow on the way into the valley but became impressive on the way out. Lens was 18-55mm kit job at 35mm, f6.7, 1/500s and ISO 200 (forgot to change). I was also standing on the roof of my car.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2251/3528436420_922c560278_b.jpg
Second image was taken from the same spot as the first one, only in the opposite direction. Just someones shed which has seen better days. This time it was the trusty 75-300mm kit lens at 210mm, f/5.6, 1/180s and ISO 100.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2031/3528439236_30cd60c88a_b.jpg
Third shot was taken a bit down the road where there was a large clearing. The idea was that the two trees would frame the cliff face. Once again I was using the 18-55mm kit lens at 47mm, f8.0, 1/250s and ISO 100.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3548/3528442592_8e32551a0d_b.jpg
All images have had some contrast boosting, added sharpness and brightness adjustment. I am yet to edit out my RAW shots of the day and PP the panoramas I took.

85 on landscapes? Interesting...
I've used the 85 on landscapes and panoramas a few times with good results - I find it an extremely versatile lens at times depending on the situation and distance from the subject. I know my 18-55 is a cheapo kit lens but, strangely, it tends to be just right for a lot of the panoramas I take.

I used the 18-55 for a while, (might have been the 17-55?). It did the job too. I got a few keepers with it.
85 I could see using for panos. I find my 24-70 trying on the longer end for landscapes, there's no way I could handle 85mm fixed.

I used to shoot landscapes with a 50mm on a 1.6 crop body (similar FoV as an 85 on a 5D). Mind you, at the time I shot just about everything with a 50mm 'cause it was either that or the 18-55.

You're gonna struggle with most lenses to get the whole car in focus when you're that close to the subject. You could always start to learn some focus stacking. ;)
