I'm not doing any shooting this weekend - just packed all my lighting gear into its Pelican 1510 case (man, there's a lot of gear there when it's spread out on a table ready to pack...) and sent the mkIII and the 85L along for the trip.

Some photos of Faker lead singer Nathan Hudson.
Excuse any calibration issues, these where quick edits for the uni mag on my laptop inside the venue, ill process some on my calibrated desktop later tonight.
EDIT: WTF is wrong with POTNs image upload? The pics look HORRIBLE here and pixelated!
EDIT2: Please no comments unless its about how to fix the POTN from pixelating the pics like mad. they look fine on both my computers, will post more tonight if i can fix the issue.

Composition looks good Angus. His face is out of focus though, are you focus-recomposing?? I can't comment on the lighting, I'm not a concert or event tog, but I'm sure it's quite difficult. Perhaps a bit of artificial fill light will bring up the shadows a bit on the first one.

No flash was allowed (Crap because everyone in the crowd uses it) Face looks better on my screen in the originals it seems to be partly due to POTN expanding and softening or doing weird things, And also due to these being the 2 i picked very very quickly to edit last night on deadline, will post more tonight. Focus point was on his face or collar.

You might want to check your lens calibrations mate... Focus is definately off. On the first, it looks like his jacket pocket is in focus, and in the second one, if you look at the guy on the very left of the shot, his face is more in focus than the subject. Are you shooting servo or one shot??

Angus, just use Photobucket. Easiest thing to use, I've never had a problem with it.
Just like to mention that Windows 7 is running sweetly. I liked the Aero theme on Vista but I'm sticking with Basic on this, I don't really know why but I never liked Aero too much to begin with. Just something about it.
Edit: There is one thing actually. AVG Free 8.5 installed and runs fine but 7 doesn't seem to recognise it. It says that AVG Internet Security 8.5 is compatible and recommended for Windows 7 (amongst a few other programs) but I won't really have a problem will I?

Lenses seem fine for most things (As in not out of calibration - How much would it cost to get my 70-200 calibrated?), just flipping through some others from the show and these seem the worst to have picked out  in the second his face looks ok but not perfect. I think it may partly be due to the subject being absolutely ADHD and not able to stand still

Just testing to see what the image attachment thing does to my photos. Tempted to sign up for a zenfolio account soon though, need to come up with a half decent name first.
And if it looks like carp, Im more inclined to say it was from the massive quality cut when saving in PS. Saved at 5, when its normally 12....

Ok... So, if you're using one shot and not using servo and keeping the focus point locked on his face, my suggestion would be to do the later to give you more chance of keeping his face in focus. ;)

I think this might be a bit of a blast from someones past. Found lurking in one of the many unpacked boxes from when I moved into the new house in November 2007. I'm not exactly sure where it came from originally or if I ever used it.

I would have taken the photos inside the house, but I wanted natural light and at the time I took the pics, the only sun available was on the front verandah.
EDIT: According to one website, it's worth between 10 and 15 Euros which roughly translates into $18 - $27 AUD.

Girl's soccer for me and maybe some IRB racing, if they hold it, with the weather as it is...and if I want to take my camera out in a howling gale blowing straight in off the sea.
I might go down and watch for a while though, even if the camera stays in the car, although I know I'll regret not having it with me, as the IRB's will be flipping left right and centre...

Sine we deal with people in both manual and electric wheelchairs, in our version of the game, other than kick off, goal kicks and kicking for touch, we use an "imaginary ball" where players "pass" the ball by calling a fellow players number. When it comes to tackling, basically it's Austag in wheelchairs.

35mm film projectors are my thing. No idea about that digital low resolution junk. I guess that if you stack two 10K Lumen(not the same as 10K projection- which doesn't exist, BTW), it would equal 20K Lumen. What ever that means.

Aparrently lumen is brightness
by 10k projector and 6k I meant lumens.... (they are all just XGA lol, and projecting onto a gauze, hence the stupid brightness)
The guy said that it is on some wierd relationship as you add more projectors the amount it increases by decreases, but didn't tell us much more about if it would actually help us to rent another projector...

I understand lumens, I was being a bit silly. I'm not sure about that relationship, with the reducing ratio or what ever it is? Theoretically it shouldn't be like that, but I've never stacked two+ projectors- never needed to...
Although, with IMAX digital- like Hoyts has, they run with 2 projectors and I'm sure it doubles the light on the screen. Just remember that you have equal light fall off due to the inverse square law going back to the audience. Also, you wont get great reflectance off that surface.

I never got the joy of being a projectionist at HOYTS. It was one job I actually really wanted to do (But they said I was too young).
You had a film light up on you?

Don't know when you worked in a cinema Phil, but if it was in the last 20-30 years I highly doubt the film would "light up". Nitrate film would catch on fire, and even burn under water, but safety film, the film that has been used for the last 20-ish years will not catch on fire. I think some one may have been telling porky pies, or running some very old film.
I've had film get caught in the projector, and the frame will burn(as in, melt from the heat of the light), but it will never catch fire.

It was '99 - '01. I'd say melting would've been the case. :p All I know is they had to hand out a lot of comp tickets because of it. It happened quite a few times during my time at HOYTS.

Yeah, sounds like a Hoyts/Multiplex type of thing. Sorry passes are the go apparently, cause you get to make the candy bar sales twice. We pretty much never have problems, although, I did accidentally turn the lamp off while some people were watching the bit at the end of X-Men tonight. Oh well, my bad, I'm sure they'll live.

Ok, so it should hopefully be alot brighter...
We are projecting onto a 10x7ish metre gauze about 30m away, it is sweet as we can light behind and in front of the gauze, and with the hazer on, you can sort of see the text/ graphics from the projector going onto what almost appears to be nothingness (if it is only on a portion of the screen) and see behind that, downside is only 20% reflectance....

That's a fairly long throw buddy. Don't expect much in terms of brightness, especially with two projectors. There's just not enough light to start with.

Well we have the one 10k in now, and it is too dim with the stage lighting up at any decent level, so you think another 10k will make it twice as bright, so hopefully that will make it good enough... if not either we will have to block out a bunch of seats to put the projector in or hang them in the lighting rig and try and hire a really wide lens.....

Choc bomb? I'm guessing something to do with the choc tops?
One of the great things we used to do was see how much salt we could put in the popcorn before people would complain. Our best result was 13 spoons. There was so much salt it was crystalising in the oil to basically create popcorn sized salt pieces.

Don't hold me to it, I'm just going off theory here. Just reading about stacking though, and unless you really know what you're doing, can that idea. You've got alignment, colour, timing issues. It's too much of a pain. Maybe try and get a higher gain screen or move the projector closer?

The screen needs to be what it is for the whole lighting behind it thing (it is a drama play :p)
We have about five VGA splitters so hopefully should be able to get it going with two projectors, alignment is a worry however, colour not so much as the reflection off the stage from coloured stage lights pretty much stuffs that up anyways....
We start tuesday
Methinks that when we get the second projector on monday we will have a hell of a time during the night setting it up, then building something to put it in the lighting rig, or running cables to the middle of the audience...:confused:

Haha, we actually have already sorted the lighting, sound, and set... only thing is the projector as we were sort of expecting the beast we have in now to have worked by itself:confused:
And we have run out of floppy disks to back the lighting desk up to, so if that doesn't break and we manage to get the projection sorted then this will end up being all good...
Actually come to think about it the only times that we have had to do the whole all nighter thing is when things broke the day before the production (like the lighting desk, and automation computer)...

They changed it last year. We have a year of red P's where you can only have one passenger in the 16-25 range or something around there. No curfews as far as I know and I'm pretty sure it's 0.05 but if you get done for it, you lose your license for however long and then once you get it back you have to have one of the lock systems installed in your car. Once you're done with the year of red's you go to 3 years of green's where everything's the same minus the one passenger for the 16-25 age group.

Hm... I still think our 'redone' P plater rules are better. Only real restrictions are no turbo cars (unless its a diesel) or engines larger than a V6 and you can only have one unrelated person under 21 in the car after 11pm, which doesnt matter because my close uni friends are all over 21 except for one.
That and we can still get our Ps at 17 and have no speed restrictions...

I did about the same amount of time (although we had the 50 hr book back then. I just faked it), had three lessons then went for the test and got them first go.
I couldn't imagine doing 120 hours. Especially if it meant you had to have 120 lessons because you didn't have access to a car.

I'm in the middle of cooking dinner (3.5hr slow cooked stew) so I couldn't head out for the weekly Saturday night sunset shot.
This was taken from my balcony though, as I couldn't not get a shot of this one.
Some slight cruves and some USM is all I did with it.
I like. If you can bothered i think deleting that bright fence? line? thingy would be of benefit.

I'll give it a shot.
