Tomorrow, Check my sig.
Ah I saw that - I'll be in the city on Sunday instead of tomorrow. Can't swing Saturday.
I am coming over to sydney for a bit and will be free from the 5th-8th so am trying to set up some sort of meet up since I'll probably be bored...
Let me know, I'd likely be up for something (unless this interview process I'm in the middle of finally materialises into a new job).

With FB you cannot change page designs, so they don't get annoying like the myspace ones do. Basically you put up info about yoursefl, post pictures, videos and write on other people's "walls". You can update your status and people see what you're up to. It's really good actually.
On the job, how about a cinema?

Some nice clear shots there, but watch your cropping, I think.
I know it's not always possible, but unless people in the background are really OOF, I tend to prefer not to cut heads off, or have disembodied limbs coming in from the sides of the shot.

Yeah, it is pretty big, 10MP files are at about 60% natively... Really happy with it, the crappy little samsung is awful next to it, but is good for mail and calendar and the grid in LR... (two displays really helps my LR workflow, grid on one loupe on the other...)

Yeah, that's one of the main reasons I want a second - the grid in LR. I used to have two 21" CRT's before this. Way too much desk space, and way to heavy. I'd jump on a second one in a heartbeat, but I'd want it to match (yeah, i know), and my monitor is a few years old. Just can't find it anymore.
...and Jake. At first he wasn't allowed on the couch. Then the couch was Ok, but not the chairs. Then the chairs were Ok, but not the bed. Then the bed was Ok but he couldn't sleep upstairs. Now there is no sacred ground. I blame in on my fiance.

You know what now I look at them agian I see what you mean, it does look odd eh... I actually never noticed that before  I think when I am cropping I don't look at the picture enough...
What do you reckon about the saturation and such, I almost think it is a bit overcooked, I always used to do a *much* lower contrast/clarity/vibrance/saturation/curves boost and just recently started trying it more aggressively, can't decide if I like it or not

It's not always possible I know and there's plenty of examples in my Picasaweb album (link below) where I've not managed to get it right, but I do try to keep it in mind when cropping.
Yeah, I wasn't sure about the saturation, but a lot of people like that look. I dunno if it works as well with footy as it might with, say, surfing, or surf lifesaving (hmm...might have to have a look at giving it a go on a few of my nippers and surf carnival shots actually....

Haha, get an older dell 30" and have your 24 next to it, you will forget about matching when you see the craziness a 30" monitor is! (esp with a good big one next to it...)

A year and a half later after the sale, I regretted it, I now have a new 85/1.8. This copy seems to be very sharp, unusually sharp out of all the 85's I've tested. It actually cured my lust for the 85/1.2L. I just could not justify that amount of $ for the L even in my imagination.

Got home not long ago from my first real paid gig. Went alright but the venue was DARK! Few stage lights, the main one was our worst nightmare (red) on the centre. Everything was in rotation so eventually I could predict where a good shot would be.
Ended up buying an Ultra II 4GB and when I got to the venue, I turned my 1D on and I didn't even have a card in there! Ended up getting my dad to drop my third card off. Didn't help that I had to format one of the cards in the 1D so I only got 2GB out of it.
Best thing about the night? They want to turn it into something regular and wants me to be their regular photographer :)

If you do become the regular photographer try and talk to the lighting guy (if there is one) about leaving some main lights (on the people) bare and 100% and chasing side/back/other lights with colours...
I have had that happen to me once, since then I attached the little card wallet thing they come with to my neckstrap and have never had it happen again :D (although now I am shooting without a neckstrap more and more I am fearing it might happen :|)
But yeah, it would be fun to shoot regularly paid! How much off camera flash gear do you have if the lighting guy is nonexistant or sucks?...

That's a good idea. I'm not sure who did the lights, it might have just been the sound guy  It's not the best venue for shooting really. Stage is about as high as a bed. There's stairs on the right side that I went up on to try and get some scene shots but 24 on the 1D wasn't too wide :p
I have no off camera flash gear or experience  All I've got is a 430EX II. I've wanted to buy some triggers or older masters (580EX or 550EX) along with some older slaves (430EX) but I've never placed any importance on it. Plus the money aspect  Also I'm somewhat against flashes at gigs because it takes away the mood of it but if I did have a few flashes or whatever, I'm sure I could customise everything to just give me enough light.

It's the industrial park just off 'Eastern Valley Way' in Castle Cove. It's pretty quiet over the weekends, I'm gonna head back tomorrow night as it will definitely be a ghost town. It's the North side of the bridge, about 15 mins away if that helps with your bearings. :p

take a tripod and drag the shutter to maximise the available light and create atmosphere, probably need at least 2 flashes, pref soften them with something, umbrella??

I saw my....I mean your.....I mean my ex...85/1.8 in the sample shots thread. Dang that thing is good in your hands. Now you know the feeling of why why why ;) you got a good deal on that 85!
A year and a half later after the sale, I regretted it, I now have a new 85/1.8. This copy seems to be very sharp, unusually sharp out of all the 85's I've tested. It actually cured my lust for the 85/1.2L. I just could not justify that amount of $ for the L even in my imagination.
NO, my 60 macro is still not for sale :p
Aww.. please?
I'm lovin' that 85 as you can see. Infact, I majorly purged my gear list about a year back now, and got rid of everything except for 4 lenses. I ended up keeping your 85 and it's now so regularly used, I may aswell sleep with it. Actually wait a sec.. I do!

When mine get icky, like when a little kid sneezes on the lens (yes that really happened) i use the eclipse fluid i have for sensor cleaning. Used with a swab, works a treat and i know its safe.

Aww.. please?
I'm lovin' that 85 as you can see. Infact, I majorly purged my gear list about a year back now, and got rid of everything except for 4 lenses. I ended up keeping your 85 and it's now so regularly used, I may aswell sleep with it. Actually wait a sec.. I do!
Ah I see you kept the essentials. The 3-lens zoom kit from UWA to tele, and a fast prime. Hmm, the 85 is that well regarded eh? At one point I was considering PM'ing you and offering to buy the lens back, but now I know that wasn't gonna happen. I got a new copy anyway, and it turned out very good. Unusually sharp wide open - I've shot many 85's before the your/my copy, and they tend to be a little bit soft at full aperture.
I went mostly full frame, and the 135L with 5D has a punch that has to be seen to be believed! Now I see why it is known as one of the Trinity. The FOV is similar to the 85 on a crop so you'd already understand why I like that combo. BTW, you should see this monster at f/2.0 - tack sharp wide open.
No my 5D is not for sale either ;) (even though I acquired the 5D2 because I wanted TWO FF bodies at events)
You should have kept the 35L though. That lens is phenomenal.

When mine get icky, like when a little kid sneezes on the lens (yes that really happened) i use the eclipse fluid i have for sensor cleaning. Used with a swab, works a treat and i know its safe.
Mmmmm, maybe I should get some of that stuff, I'm using the lenspen for my sensor still
Ooh, not sure Markie, I'll have to get back to you. I'm still in exams at the moment.. and things are pretty hectic. I'll try my best to make the orgy.
Your exams HAVE to end soon don't they
They can't go on forever, that would just be shootmyself crap!
Fellas, how much are used 5Ds going for these days?
My mate sold his BEAT UP (it seemed as if it had more bare metal than paint on it :D although was a joy to shoot when I played with it) one for $1000 ish, but that of course is the going rate for a VERY beat up one (with about 300k clicks and scratched up LCD as well )

Great lighting, created nice texture on jacket etc. I think first shot is awesome, the expression, the holding of pop tarts (random) haha its just great!
Only thing is i think it would have been a bit better with less DOF, but you probably wernt thinking about that trying out new lighting and all.

17-40, 24-105, 35L, 135L, in addition to your existing kit, and you're all set. Oh yeah throw in a 100-400 for good measure. Get rid of all that EF-S junk ;)

Yeh dude, I'd definitely be interested in a 135L when I move to a 5D. Another benefit is that my 85mm 'becomes a 50mm' for free, if that makes sense. Aren't I lazy?

Sssssh. You will attract the 'there is no such thing as crop factor and lens focal length does not change' crowd who will flood us with their million and one 'technical' explanations :p
I agree with you. Language is a fragile thing and as long as we are both on a common understanding it is all good :)

I think it's the UD60 that fits my gear (specifically the gripped 400D and the 1D plus the 70-200) but that price is a bit high to just go out and buy. Will definitely be my next bag purchase, that or the similar Crumpler, 7 or 8MDH I think.

I think I need a more potent way to clean my lenses than my lenspen(or a new one ) I am finding it damn hard to get all the residue left by the rain (it was pissing down this morning, and was crazy windy, I now wish they put heaters in the grip of the mkIII ) on the FE of my 70-200 (with hood on!)
The best thing I have found for getting a lens ultra clean is a microfibre cloth. Not the ones they sell at camera shops, I'm talking run-of-the-mill kitchen grade supermarket microfibre cloth - $4. Will get rid of greasy fingerprints and watermarks without needing to use cleaning fluid. Note if you reuse too often you'll start scratching the lens with the built-up debris. Preferably get the thin ones that you can cut into smaller pieces. That way you give your lens a good clean and just chuck the used bit.

Sweet thanks mate!
I will give that a go...
The front element has been needing a clean for ages, normally just shirt tail and/or lenspen, while no scratches are there there are lots of spots that just do not come off
