Indoors facing up or part way up it would be good, straight forward not as great.
Oh yeah, certainly not great light, but better than bare flash forward indoors...
I have personally never really found a need for it, generally will use bare flash bounced with a bounce card for a bit of fill if needed...

Yup, even flash at 45 degrees and then in built (or even better a bigger bought or home made one) bounce card out.

I generally try to throw my flash into a section of the room that will give me slightly directional light, sometimes behind and to the side of me, sometimes to the side forward, depends on the room....
Oh and use a cut down index card so I can move it around the head to accomodate the places I am bouncing into...
That is when I have to TTL....

Well that was an industrious evening. Fixed the dead radio in mums car, fixed the dead CD changer in mums car, determined there was no over heating issue in mums car (she thought it was over heating when it was normal...) and tomorrow night fixing the headliner in mums car.
Can you tell I am the one using mums car this weekend?

No problems with the font Dave, easy to read yet edgy enough without being too silly or too sterile.
I believe people want to see the face of their entertainer, don't let your appreciation of great photography get in the way of the basic needs of the public, Who is Dave Robertson, What does he look like?
Unless of course you call the album "No lookin back.."

28th of April 2009 (Tue), 23:14
Dave, the centre part is a bit washed out for me, but I really like the bottom third of the pic, and the stance of the figure, sand, water and shadow. Puts the emphasis on the music and mood, rather than on who's making it.
Lots of pop singers look cool and cute, make crap music and are quickly forgotten. Many really good musicians focus more on their music than their looks, and are branded by their tunes rather than golden locks. There's always google if someone wants to find a face to the figure, you've given them a name to search for. Like the font too.

"Work against it" is spot on: "Lol everyone wants change, no one (except Alexander, thanks Alex) has actually made any form of concrete suggestion. .. "
Apart from anything else, why should we do the redesign? Plenty of ideas there about what people want. (Simple, clean and not looking like a 10-year-old did it in 1999 seems to be the main things - funny that.)
He likes you Al, but the rest of us can go get stuffed for trying to help him! Makes me think he truly is as clueless as he appears, which again doesn't make me want to buy anything off him.
If he's as ignorant about everything else as he is about webdesign, )while thinking he's terrific at it despite being told straight-up he's clueless), it's a worry.

Just a random question or heads up mainly for the Newcastle guys here. Last night i got a call about a seminar i had been recommended for by another photographer which was being held at a wedding function centre and was free to attend. The lady gave me a quick speel about it being some type of business where i could help people buy cheaper from the internet and promote my business. I had doubts and wasn't sure who the other photog was that recommended me but thought why not go only 10 mins away and i had nothing on.
Well i get there dressed in my jeans and a jumper, baseball hat on and walk into a room where everyone was dressed in suits :o Didn't i feel at home. Lucky for me they had a seat for me in the front row which made me even more suspicious about what was happening. Anyway i sit down and old mate starts jabbering on about making money blah blah blah and lots of hand raising and clapping buy others in the crowd at his command and after about 5 mins i knew it was Amway or some **** like it. Well after 45 mins yep just as i expected a Amway spin off but not called Amway. If i'd been at the back of the room i would have been gone after 5 mins but they knew that so stuck me at the front
So anyway i met the lady who called me as i'm trying to escape and she says does it interest you and i politely say no thanks i've seen Amway before and her face drops a little like whoops busted and the photog who recommended me is with her and i say sorry i have no idea who you are and she then says "Oh no you don't know me" and i turn and walk out. So moral of my rant if it makes sense is, i don't know where they got my contacts from but maybe online or from one of my cards so they may be targeting photgs so don't waste your time if you get a call.

Need to do a headshot for someone at short notice (needs to be done 11:30am tomorrow) how much would you guys charge, simple on location with 2 speedlights is all ill need. Will take no more then 1 hour.
11.30am tomorrow is short notice?
You have an hour to shoot?
With all that official-looking gear you have, that should be a doddle ;)
I'd charge $200 to shoot, and include a $100 credit towards whatever prints / files the client wants. But that's just me.
I daresay you command enough respect to charge far more :D

Client just needs one digital file but wants a few prints for personal use, Charging $75/hour (incase it runs longer then the hour) plus prints cost.

In fact, shooting it out of a body part is likely to improve its taste (no, I'm not going to test that theory.)

Colour test:
How's the colours looking? I feel a slight improvement, I didn't push too far as it still has to look natural for the skin tones.
I presume the one on the right was the "after" shot ? Definitely looks more punchy than the one on the left.

Oh my god. The 1D classic came and it is a tank! I love it. I haven't shot much yet, just trying to get the settings right. I don't get why it was recommended to plug it into the computer and use the software to get everything right? Unless it's more detailed. Then I probably will do that on the weekend.
Edit: Am I correct in that the 1D body was based on the 1V film body? Because the shutter sounds so similar to my Voigtlander SLR rather than my 400D!

There's your problem - CFLs are quite often greeny yellow and those that aren't tend to be overly magenta.
