I'm always in for a cheeky pickup.

You'd almost have bought it to throw a lens cap and rear cap on and sell on for a little more with a better rep.

As long as it works, yeah.

It'd be tested and sent back if it failed my rigorous testing.

Ah, didn't realise it was a 28-70 not 24-70. I forget that one exists. Didn't have a hood with it either.

Nah I'm not kicking myself just yet... if I don't get a good Sigma then I might be! :p

The same seller has another 17-35 up, I messaged him and said is it an accident/relist or do you actually have two? He said he's got two so I might keep an eye on that one even though I would prefer the length of the 24-70, but I want something wider at the same time

one 540EZ at 1/32nd power bounced in a bathroom.. gave the impression of quite a few haha :P

EDIT: bounced 30 deg to the right reflecing off a black tile (much the same as what the glass is sitting on)

Nice idea, I was wondering if it was a kitchen or a bathroom :p I didn't realise the EZ's worked on newer cameras.. I thought something about the voltage or whatever messed it up?

That's alright. I still want to get a few older flashes, like one 550EX to use as a master and some 420EX's for slaves but they're still somewhat expensive, when they're available.

Edit: Phil, myspace has gotten a bit cleaner but it looks so trashy compared to facebook now.

I'm not sure if it's true but apparently facebook can claim the images that you upload and use them commercially, but I'd say myspace has it in their TOS too. To be honest, you should move to Flickr or Smugmug or something soon anyway, a dedicated photo sharing site. Myspace is much easier for a lot of people because you just put up a bulletin saying new photos and they can look and comment but if you write a bulletin and link, like I've done before, you get good responses anyway.

If all you're doing is copying files, surely a simple shell script could achieve that easily. On a Windows box I'd just schedule a simple .cmd file based around an xcopy x: y: /d command. There'd have to be an OSX equivalent.

Sorry Adam, me no speak nerd!! :p

Seriously, I wouldn't know where to start, and what to do.

It should work, what do you see when you open superduper? Copy (source) to (target) then source is a drop down list and I at least can select my USB drives...

Yep, that is what I see, but only the Macintosh HD is in the source section. The externals appear in destination only.

I never signed up to myspace. I was on facebook briefly, but no longer feel the need for social network sites. Mysapce always looked the worse out of them because the way people "designed" their pages. Sometimes I would've preferred to poke my eyes out with rusty nails.

I'm actually signed up at Myspace but I have only ever posted one thing there. My Facebook area only ever gets updated when I actually write a blog entry on my real site and it feeds over to it.

I actually detest the phrase "social networking" because no-one I know is doing anything social other than playing games and sending me stupid videos and pictures.

Oh, and any time you want your eyes poked with rusty nails, just give me a yell. I'm up for a bit of amusing distraction.

Do all of these Nikon SB's mount fine because they use the same mount but they'll only work in manual too? Or do you have yours with some off camera stuff?

Let me check. I don't think I've tried to mount it to my 400D. It's a belter of a flash though. If I had $200 I'd snap it up. :p

I paid $125.00 for 1 x trigger 2 x receivers. (overnight shipping included). If you don't use ETTL, it'd be a good investment. 2 flashes are better than 1. :p The SB80 also goes down to 1/128. It's like a 430, but better. ;)

That's pretty good. I do use ETTL now but I do want to try off camera so if I get some spare money I might do that, maybe just find any flash and do what you did (buy a trigger and 2 receivers) so then I'll still have ETTL with the 430. Where'd you buy yours from?

Edit: Found them on Image Melbourne's website. $64.95 for a transmitter/receiver and another $39.95 for a second receiver. They've got a list of compatible ones there too so I might just search for the cheapest I can find  Now who was it that bought those flashes off graysonline.com.au a while ago? :p

Got them from I.M.

It's a very cheap way to get into off camera stuff. I'm not taking the flash stuff too seriously at the moment, still need some light stands and brollies. Having what I have has come in handy once or twice though, it's also shown me how little I know.

You probably could do it. I didn't know you wanted a 50D? Thought you were waiting for a 1D2 or something because you're so used to your 1N. A 50D would be pretty nice though.

Their was a little incident with my laptop tonight falling off the table due to the AC charger being tripped over.

The laptop landed lid down and the keyboard has pressed against the LCD and put a scratch across the screen.

Is their anything to get this scratch out as its in the middle of the screen and obvious.

As for pets...they are never coming inside again!

He just sounded like a muppet after reading some thread he started.

Ideally I'd like to save for a 1DIII but that wont be for a while. The 400 hasn't got enough fps, and the ISO range isn't much to write home about (AF is well shoddy for sports too). If I could by a 1DII on my GE card, I'd do that, but it's not possible, so my only option is a 50D really.

Someone mentioned some 1D2's being sold at Camera Exchange or something like that in Melbourne. Any places around Sydney like that that might have some? You'd think you could use the card for that if you were in luck. The price is massively outrageous but I remembered this: http://www.teds.com.au/www/6/1001102/displayproduct/canon-eos-1d-mark-ii-body-only-sh--1410217_secondhand-dslr--1409889_.html

Either way, a 50D will be a good buy. I'm going to sit with my 400D/1D rather than sell both and find a 40D like I've been thinking for ages. The 400D does fine for what I use it for as sports was where I needed something better and the 1D is good for that.

It's an odd card. Basically, it's a credit card, but not worth using for every day purchases. (Interest rate is about 30%) It's main use is for those interest free, deferred payment plans with Harvey Norman, Domayne, Bing Lee etc. I chose Bing Lee because they apparently negotiate anything. Discount Digital used to accept the GE cards with 24 months interest free, but they apparently don't now, so I was too late to buy through them.

I'd get a 40D if I could get it on the right terms with this card, but as I just said, you have to find the right retailer, the right price and the right terms otherwise it'll end up costing you. This card is both very handy yet very painful if you cut loose.

Nah, there is no way to get rid of it if it is an actual scratch. But it's worth cleaning it, a whole bunch of "scratches" on one of my MBPs screens (the old one which lives in the family room so has been spilled on and dropped more than I can remember) came out with a microfibre cloth ;)

Yeh, if you're smart with these cards you can get some pretty good deals. My partner and I have bought pretty much all our furniture with it. She wont be too happy I'm buying a camera with it, but hey, she didn't feel I needed a $1200 BBQ either.

The shops with 40D's I've found don't have the interest free terms I want. I don't really feel I should put it on my actual credit card either. I already owe too much. lol.

The file is still there but corrupt? that sucks, I dunno what to do, google until you find something is my general attack plan
If the file is gone stop using that drive and run (sorry only know HFS+/Mac software) something like Data Rescue II on it...
Sort it out then Mark! :p

I never really used photomatix too much. My HDR tools were in Artizen. It had its limitations too. I never went with full versions though, so that could've been my problem.

Hopefully I can get something from Bing...They owe me!

Nope. Doesn't sound like your night tonight. :p
All the HDR programs I've are sort of annoying in that they analyse the photo as opposed to just doing something to it if you know what I mean...

Yeah, Cam and Al doesn't sound like your weekend :p

Done a bit of research. I'm eventually gonna buy a Vivitar 285HV from B&H (maybe two) and the Cactus triggers. Then I just have to actually learn about it

Edit: Or if someone wants something from B&H as well then we could order it at the same time like everyone else does because postage is a fair amount for something so small!

Never used a Vivitar flash. As a flash they will certainly do the job though, from what I've heard. Anything with manual settings will do just fine. :)

I think most people are out of the 40D now anyway so you'd have to be lucky. How soon can you get into Bing and have a go at getting the price lowered? :p

Camera Exchange in Melbourne have one with 17-85 IS for $1500 iirc. Ditch that lens for about $500-$600 on Ebay and you score a 40D for a very low price. Only catch is it is a Canon scratched box special :D (Brand New in Box, full 1 year Canon Australia warranty)

Phil, you're gonna laugh. But I've found a cheaper option. I remembered the brand of OC-E3 that I bought off ebay (Yongnuo) and then I remembered that they made a full manual flash. They're about AU$50 from HK so I changed my mind and will get one or two of those as well as the Cactus triggers :) If you do a search of Yongnuo here there's a few topics about them. Now that I'm getting an idea for these Yongnuo flashes, I want them sooner than the Sigma. But I want the Sigma really badly  I'm also unsure that the Yongnuo's will actually work with Cactus triggers. I read a flickr post that it will so I can only try I guess (when I get money :p).

My mum always said that i shouldnt play with my food.

You have done well, i think you balanced the diffused and hard lighting well, and the crop works. I find my eyes darting to all items around the image so it obviously lacks a main focal point but that works well for this shot IMO.

Did you eat them afterwards? they look yum!

Perhaps strawberries or sliced apples on the pancakes next time as it's a very neutral image.

They were cold at the end of the shot but bloody marvelous.

I think ith everything being on the same focal plne, everything is in focus, so for a shot plonked on the web, it's a bit busy. As a cover with type over it, yeah, works well.

Looks a bit underexposed over here, though.

Also, was the coffee cold? it looks it, somehow :-)

The 'tea' was luke warm when I drank it....fresh in that shot. I'll need to try some shots of steam or at least how to create steam that's useful for photography. I wanted it wafting across the setting.

He does? Alright. V4's. I've got 2 transmitters and 6 receivers now and they haven't missed a beat.

I splashed out on 4 YN-460s and they have worked flawlessly. I though 2 of them bit the dust today but it turned out the batteries weren't charged. I was very close to just chucking them out (simply due to the cost of them) and it was a good idea to try the fresh batteries.

The only other flash I've got in a 430EX. After I get a 2nd body I'm tempted to go for a set of Alien Bees or a Quantum. We shall see.

Dinner's just gone in the oven. Stuffed and roast Quail wrapped in prosciutto.

I've been wanting to cook Quail for ages.
Wow, that looks awesome. can i have recipe?

Mostly, I like the 'after'. But the whites are blowing, so I think you need to mask them out before exposure changes. (Look at the sugar, look at the plates.) Also, it makes the tea look like it has a scum on the surface (which is why I asked if it was cold, earlier :-)
+1
The after definitely has more impact, and the grain of the wood has come to life.
Maybe darken the the to make it look like black coffee??

heh, first day at Perisher and it snowed for a good hour or two, not a real good cover but still. Looks like it's going to snowing all weekend as well.
Awesome, im heading down in a couple of weeks, sounds like a good season so far.

Hey Al, the original looks a bit dim and the PPed version is blown out in some areas. I hope you don't mind, but I gave it a crack:

Phumface, that looks delicious. Photo itself seems a bit desaturated though.. just had a quick run through CS4 (hope you don't mind):

I have the swine flu.. not much to do.

Just got over the swine. It sucked balls.

For those who would like to try the recipe.

Stuffing

4 jumbo quails, butterflied
1/2 an onion, diced
1 stick celery, diced
50g butter
30ml olive oil
100g dried sourdough (crusts removed and diced)
1/2 a bunch chives, sliced
1/2 a stick rosemary, chopped
5 sage leaves, chopped
60g grated parmesan
4 slices proscuitto

Quail

Extra olive oil for drizzling
5 sprigs thyme
150ml chicken stock
50ml white wine
2-3 sprigs parsley, choppedSlowly cook the onion and celery in the butter and oil. When translucent, add the bread, herbs and parmesan, then allow to cool.

Fill the quail with the mixture and stitch it up with one skewer per bird, and then wrap in proscuitto (one slice per bird).

Bake the quail in the oven for 25 minutes on 180 degrees, drizzled with a little olive oil and scattered with fresh thyme. When the quail is cooked, remove from the tray and keep warm. Pour off the fat, add chicken stock, wine and butter, and reduce to a glaze consistency. Add chopped parsley - this will become the sauce.

Served with any veg you like really.

Ok, so the stuffing was great, I wouldn't change it at all. Don't drizzle the oil over the quails either, brush it over evenly so you get a nice colouring when it's in the oven. Don't forget to season like I did!

I'd like to make it with a proper white wine sauce, what was published was ok, but it could've been better.

He does? Alright.

Al! :) I'm gonna buy 2 YN-460's and I'm thinking of buying Yongnuo's own transmitters and receivers because after reading a thread on flickr about Yongnuo's ones, which came out a few months before the V4's, everyone was saying there isn't much that makes the V4's worth it over Yongnuo's own.

Good to know they work well! I'll buy 1 transmitter, 3 receivers and I'll learn manual flash and go full strobist! :) Thanks!

Colin, thanks for the edit. I like the change from the original however the Quail shot is overdone. The colour was great in the orignal and very faithful but I've never seen prosciutto that red!

And Phil....I'll have to find the motivation to cook now! ;)

Collin, i like you pancake edit, but the quail edit looks overcooked.. i mean, oversaturated.

Why do all your pancakes actually look good :( When I make some I flip them and they end up all deformed and then because I'm trying to fix it up they get a bit burnt  Look terrible but taste great.

A Sigma 24-70 just went on ebay for $350. There's another one ending Monday arvo currently at $315 so I'm going to have a go at that because then it gives me more money (and less waiting) to get the flashes and triggers! :)

No invoice.

What's that case? I'll update the original post and report in.

Hey Feng i'll get 2 x AA Imedions and i don't need an invoice thanks mate ;)

Ok NP :)

Hmmm, I've never tried that! How did you go at getting your i7 machine going mate?

Yeah it's a pretty simple app.

The i7 is going fantastic! :) It is as follows now:

Core i7 920 on a GA-EX58-UD5
12G DDR3 1600 RAM
ATI HD4870 Dual DVI w/ 1GB RAM running Dual 2407WFPs.
Areca ARC-1222 SAS/SATA RAID HBA
4 x 1TB WD GP disks in RAID10
LG DVD-R/HDDVD/BD
FW800 Expansion
Drobo via FW800
MyBook Studio 2 via FW800
Logitech Di Novo KB for Mac and MX Revolution

It's running 10.5.7 with the vanilla kernel booting via EFI partition. The installation is completely unadulterated with the kexts and bootloader (Chameleon v2.0rc1) loading via the EFI partition. All items work 100%. Also running Parallels 4 for MYOB :)
