When I get my strobist kit going I'll shoot some of our dinner too :p Al did you already have the V4's or did you pick them up at the same time as the YN460's?

How can you have no SBS reception? That's pretty odd. I'm playing PS2 while the tea break is on.

Ah, I see now. I've got a cord running from the back of the TV in my room to the living room so that I can watch normal TV on it. It takes away normal TV on the plasma out in the living room but they've got Foxtel anyway :p

Nope. Picked the V4's up seperately.
The 460s are off focalprice.com and the V4's from Gadget infinity and Image Melbourne.

That's cool. I'm just going to buy the two 460's and Yongnuo's triggers off their ebay store. Bought my Yongnuo OC-E3 from them so I know they're good. Speaking of which, I won't need that cord after I get the setup going (not that I use it now anyway) so if anyone is interested in it, PM me. I never got round to doing Jim's mod so it's in perfect condition. I would keep it if I had modded it but yeah, someone else might want it to mod it to make it more useful.

I wouldn't mind getting a radio shutter release for the 400. It would have proved handy today. The odd moment I knocked the stand or got the shutter release caught on the stand caused me to wait until the stand stopped swaying (small movements) but the camera was 8 feet in the air!

Mmm pancakes, i would prefer vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce though. :)
The i7 is going fantastic! :) It is as follows now:
Core i7 920 on a GA-EX58-UD5
12G DDR3 1600 RAM
ATI HD4870 Dual DVI w/ 1GB RAM running Dual 2407WFPs.
Areca ARC-1222 SAS/SATA RAID HBA
4 x 1TB WD GP disks in RAID10
LG DVD-R/HDDVD/BD
FW800 Expansion
Drobo via FW800
MyBook Studio 2 via FW800
Logitech Di Novo KB for Mac and MX Revolution
It's running 10.5.7 with the vanilla kernel booting via EFI partition. The installation is completely unadulterated with the kexts and bootloader (Chameleon v2.0rc1) loading via the EFI partition. All items work 100%. Also running Parallels 4 for MYOB :)
Holy cow, thats an awesome build, im in process of designing new PC based on i7 CPU. Probably just do 6 or 8 gig of RAM tho and no Raid. Is your LG drive a BluRay burner? and if so is it any good?

You don't really ever need a tripod for straight panos as the alignment software fixes it all up for you ;) (in my experience at least :))

It's just the reader for the HD disks. I didn't get the burner as I have no immediate intention to burn BDs. Too expensive, and I only tend to move media from the disks to my machine :) and then on to a popcorn hour :)
Wow mate! How do you like the Drobo?
I'm thinking of updating my mobo/gfx/cpu on my current desktop (Q6600@3.2GHz, 8GB RAM, 8800GTS 512) and probably sooner than that getting a RAID controller when I run out of space or 10.6 comes out, whichever comes first ;)... Was it hard to get the RAID array going?
Yeah the drobo serves its purpose... backup/timemachine/archive etc. I would never use it as my primary file store though... just not fast enough. :)
RAID controller was ok. I specifically bought this controller because I knew I'd EFI boot my hackintosh... With the appropriate scripts, it's relatively easy. I probably won't move to 10.6 until at least 10.6.1 or 10.6.2... just so the process is a bit more refined.

Don't mean to change the topic away from computers and back to photography (:)) but I can't decide if I should buy the flashes and triggers now and hang on to my 24 prime for a little longer. I know how much off camera flash can change your photography (and how much you can benefit from it) while the lens would just give me a bit more versatility when shooting in general. Sway me!

That's not a proper shed - you can obviously move around and work on projects without tripping over things.

Too right  Our shed (as big as a bedroom, barely) was full and it had one little lane to move. We cleaned it out and it lasted 2 months before it had one little lane to move again :p

hey dudes and dudettes.
have I missed much? didn't think so.
That's how I feel now, I don't have internet access at work (at least not for non-work-related stuff :( ) so I only check in at night, there's not much use for me to backtrack.
I'm playing Spore now, as a bit of gapfiller between when my CPA semester starts. In two days I'm 3/4 through the space era, is there any more after that or does the game finish there? (short of starting a new lifeform)

Oh, it ain't super-fast, it's not the 3G-S. :p I use it for MSN and email, that's about it. I read the forums if I have time, but for the first time in a long time, I'm genuinely busy at work.
Job isn't bad. Lots to learn, and lots of potential for me to move. I like it so far :)

Not weird at all. Some people think there's nothing out there but Ive been going for over 20 years and just cant get enough. The diversity is staggering and anyone who loves landscape and wildlife photography will get blown away. My website probably covers about 1/20th of my trips.

Had a bit of an Ansel Adams moment today... Had been overcast all morning and I was outside repotting some plant when the sun came out. Eastward the sky was still black with cloud. Perfect conditions for re-creating a scene I took a couple of years ago (had only shot in JPG back then and ever since have wanted to do it in RAW). So anyways, chucked some clothes on jumped in the car and lead-footed it down to the harbour. Unluckily there was a footy game on so there was cars everywhere and I had to park a few streets back then walk down. Of course thaat meant I missed the light and I had to wait around for another 30 minutes for the sun to come back out... sigh. I think the dramatic lighting was worth the wait although my shots probably don't do the actual scene justice.

Very very nice. Enough detail in the water and sky to keep it interesting and the sea spray on the left breaks up the symmetry of having the lighthouse in the centre. Excellent.:cool::cool:

I don't know. I couldn't find specific / official information on any unsupported monitors. All I know is that I got a strong red tint on one of my new monitors. ColorEyes Display Pro made a big improvement tho... so it's not that the hardware is bad, apparently. Perhaps my particular combo of equipment was the problem. It works fine on other monitors.

It would be UNAUSTRALIAN to put things in a trash can, but I still think that's different, because it's a pre-existing word/phrase.

It started me thinking because a wedding photog mate of mine asks his brides if they want a "trash the dress" shoot, and he always gets a negative feeling from them because the term does not suit the vocabular landscape of his clientele. Hence I asked him to use, {insert damo's copyright symbol here}, Drown the Gown" instead, and he has had 100% better response.;)

Depends what's wrong with it... if it was faulty from day one it could be due to a bad element/group or a badly machined focus/zoom cam and they may need to replace parts. If not under warranty that could cost $$$. That is unlikely though. I'd say it is probably just something out of alignment.
I think Canon are generally pretty quick in fixing things.

We had our last car broken into when in Sydney. They smashed the window and stole my wife's work folder that had all her paperwork, a bowl of lollies and a $10 ceramic figurine. Completely ignored about $200 worth of CDs that were in the glove box.

Also when our car got broken into they didnt touch the CD player, GPS in glovebox or the CD's in the door. Makes you wonder why they broke into the car in the first place.

I remember when I was in Czech Republic, the Audi was broken into. They took my Aunt's Sony flash head, one of my Dad's jackets. They also ripped out the Blaupunkt media head unit, dismantled the speedometer and unmounted the steering wheel.

Dinner's at Phil's!
Looks like a great meal but the composition isn't appealing. The lighting used doesn't flatter the texture of the food.
C&C please folks on the previously posted photo with post processing.
Before/After
I like "before", it feels deeper, as in there is more depth (light-wise) than the processed version. I see the highlight, but it is far less a problem than the flattening of the cutlery in "after".
