Just been on a friends facebook and saw some photos of her family done by a local "Professional" photographer. When I looked at them I was like "Err you kidding me?". All under exposed. No flash or lighting used. Wrinkles in backdrop. They looked like they had been taken with a point and shoot.
Are these people for real?
Yeah, we had a chat about this not too long ago. The bottom line was that the main ability required as a photographer these days is more front that Myers.

Some people care about date code... how old is the lens? Probably says more about wear and tear than IQ, really.
$730 is a pretty good price imho considering what they are new. Is that shipped?

Nope. Shipping extra (for outside US anyway.) Date code is UU, whatever that means.
They're selling for just under $1100 at DDP, so I thought this sounded good.

Upto 50%. This one had $50 off.
The main page and everything says TAKE 50% OFF MARKED PRICE so I assumed marked price is anything that says (for example) $295 or $315 $299 which would be 50% off $295 or $299. I can't see anything about 'Up to'...
In other news, Nikon have announced the D300s and I tell you what, if I could have one crop body from either company it would be that! It's an absolute beast. 12MP, 51-point AF system, 7FPS, up to ISO 6400 with expansion, the new 3" LCD (QVGA? VGA? Same as 5D2) and get this... CF and SD.

I didn't know this either so I searched Bastille Day and it is in fact their equivalent of Australia Day so it told me about this:
The parade opens with many cadets from the École Polytechnique, Saint-Cyr, École Navale, and so forth, then other infantry troops, then motorised troops; aviation of the Patrouille de France flies above.
The Patrouille Acrobatique de France ("French Acrobatic Patrol") commonly referred to as Patrouille de France and sometimes abbreviated as PAF, is the precision aerobatic demonstration team of the French Air Force.

charlieharper

Noooooooooooooooo..........................
Most of the time they come 50% pre-flattened !!
Seriously though...NiMH are the way to go, Heaps cheaper, and I have no idea of how the chemistry in them works, but apparently they discharge "faster" then alkaline batteries, in that they can dump electrical energy into your speedlights capacitors faster then other technologies so you get heaps faster recycling times.
Also, not to be concerned about the enviroment or the like, but NiMH just work out HEAPS cheaper then any others....About $25 or so for a charger and a couple of cells, another $10 for two more cells, and you'll never need to buy another battery again...Unless it's four more NiMH so you'll always have a spare set !!
Seriously, get the rechargeables !!

I went down the duracell route first, bought 3 packs, and they really aren't that good. Cost just as much as the eneloops on the group buys, so yeh. Definitely a waste of cash.
As for buying non rechargeable, I wouldn't bother. You'll go through them extremely quickly and just have to spend another few bucks on more. Do that 4 times and you've paid for the eneloops.

Cheers Phil and Al, between the Budgie that has free roam of the house, the Rainbow Lorikeets, the Nankeen Kestrals, Willywag tails, Magggies and Currawongs, Rosellas etc, I occasionally get to see past the balcony to enjoy the view!
Missed a great chance yesterday, was picked up to go to Sydney for a footy fundraising lunch and as we left there were two Southern Right Whales mooching about 110 metres off the beach.
Fuuny though, my lady was home so she took lots of pics with my camera, then rang me to ask how to review what she took, I told her how to put the 100-400 lens on because the 50 shots she had already taken were with the 17-40... Of course soon as the right lens was on the whales went very quiet!
I don't want to teach her too much it could get very expensive!

I've never had full coverage with swabs and had to make a L-R then R-L to cover the full sensor. I usually had up to three swabs prepared and ready as I found a single swab never cleaned it to my satisfaction.

If you like fun, go drive an EVO
Cabin build quality of a 1982 Lada Niva, but when you bury the gas pedal the smile is impossible to remove from your face.I love my WRX for the same reason, though the build is a little better. Clarence, once you go AWD you never go back. There is no choice, Audi RS6 Avant, "The fastest wagon made". ;)
I know that this is now of historical interest but Clarence, did you have your 580 set to "solo"? Theoretically it shouldn't transmit then which should have cleared up your interference issues. Disclaimer: I've used mine but twice. I do, however, have some electronics experience.
For image preview: http://irfanview.com (http://irfanview.com/) if you have XP or greater, the filesystem will see the camera's card. Just make sure that you install all the plugins as well.
Image->Effects->Effects Browser and select "Stretch Histogram" can often produce surprisingly good results.

I got my first pay from the new job. It's much nicer than the old one :D and I think I should really save towards a property... I'd love a new toy car but I don't really need it.
This could change tomorrow. ;)

I've found the M42 mount to be the easiest to use. The Yashica one I bought is a little harder to hit infinity.

Nikon mount is adaptable too and has a fair amount of glass available. Can be a bit more expensive though because the Noinkers can still use the MF lenses on their digitals.
M42 (42mm screw mount) is probably the most available as far as 2nd hand MF lenses go.

Oh Really? Quite possible but I thought they were doing quite well. I think Ozito make the same sort of thing as well as every other Chinese power tool manufacturer. Most compatible with Dremel and all very cheap.

Was this taken late in the day? Under the bridge seems to be a little too dark.
I think this spot is a great place to shoot from. I ended up there up earlier in the year when I went to photograph something else and the access roads were closed for repairs. It's a pity about the tress further around to the left that don't allow a complete shot of the bridge to be taken.
I think this probably looks better in colour because it was obviously a glorious day on the water. I would only go B/W if it was overcast and miserable.

It was taken just after midday. I toned the blacks down a fair bit because the image was basically a wash out.
I'd post the colour version but I deleted all the shots I took today. I really wasn't happy with any of them. The more I look at this one the less I like it.
Agree with the trees being in the way, it would be heaps better to be able to get that first section in view.

Seems like it could be straightened out a bit based on the grooves on the garage door. Other then that, not bad of a first attempt. The bumpers look great.
As well the light from the other side coming through the doors. Aka, ambient factors.

I was hoping you wouldnt notice the crookedness of it! Oh well.
The entire light in the room was from the hand held light. The room was basically pitch black except for the light outside the door. I was just mucking about or otherwise I would have taped up the gaps...
I think maybe the light was a touch bright and needs a type of soft box or something... Something to consider. I spy a ghetto soft box rig coming :D

Portraits (not that I have much experience ) are all about lighting. The second could be a nice shot if you did so much as bounce flash to your upper left or right onto a white piece of A3 paper/cardboard to spread it out.
Anyone remember that ad on TV a few years ago where the two guys were playing a game at work and he screamed 'OH I GOT YA YA MOTHER..." and the boss was there? I haven't seen it for a LONG time and I'm wondering if anyone knows what it was or if they have a youtube link to it? :)
