Att: Soccer Fans!!!

I want to start an EPL tipping comp this season to find out who's POTNs #1 tipper. Some interest would be great, so leave a message This Thread (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=732417). If the numbers roll in I'll create the comp.

Do it!

They're not strong enough to contend for a playoff spot in the Championship, despite the money that they have. Haven't even tried to buy anyone decent as far as I know. We've picked up Leroy Lita on a free, decent signing considering we've gotten rid of Mido (thankfully), Tuncay will go soon and Downing's gone to Villa. We'll be back up before they are

They ended up 11th last year but were pretty high for quite a while there. New players doesn't always get you wins. If they're squad is working they'll be able to pull it off. :p

Not to worry. Its a 12v flouro work light with an 'unbreakable' (famous last words) polycarbonate shell. Its a torpedo light by Evakool. http://www.evakool.com/products-minibar.shtml

Doesnt generate heat other than a slightly warm around the resistors? in the base of the light.

Anyone used an EF 20mm f/2.8 before? Impressions?

I have a 24/2.8 and I'd say it's from the same generation as the 20 (about 20-30 years old). It's very much an unspectacular lens. It's not fast relative to other primes, neither is the 20. I do regularly shoot wide open and results are good. Doesn't hunt much surprisingly but not the quickest focusing lens either.

If you don't need AF so much, I'd suggest picking up and old MF lens. Apart from being much much cheaper, some of the results are very nice. I'm loving this 28mm I picked up.

Hi All.

After being sick for another two days (have I mentioned how much I hate winter this year?)... I come back to work, and find a large box of Battery goodness. I hope to have time to day to package them all up, but if not, it'll have to happen Monday.

Can you all start PMing me your details? I'd like:

Name
Company (if applicable for invoice w/ ABN would be nice too to keep my books pretty)
Postal Addess
Billing Address if different
Phone

That way the consignment note is complete.

Thanks.

I will PM those who haven't incase they haven't checked in for a while. I will also finalise the pricing and get back to you along with invoices for those who want them.

Hi All,

I am about to embark on trying to organise and catalogue a whole heap of old pics that are on various cd's and dvd's around the place. Problem is, there's a heap of duplication.

I recall at one stage there was some application that used a rudimentary image-analysis to decide if pictures were duplicates, even if they had different filenames and no meta-data. It may even have been a Microsoft product, IIRC.

Does anyone know about this, or have any better solution than manually looking through thousands of pics in Lightroom.

I'd prefer a Mac (or Linux) program, but I do have access to *shudder* Windows if necessary.

Dunno if that's more helpful. It looks like it has the angle of the sun, but nothing about the moon.

I dunno the site you were after, but this is the best I could get if you need the info quickly.

I will be waiting for a link for this other site though, I could use a little bit more info when shooting sunsets.

Neat - shame there's no photo credit though.

My sister wanted a quick photo with her Boyfrield last night so I grabbed my camera and flash and used the lounge room wall as a back drop.

Here is the result.

Turned out well :)

White walls are very handy ;-)

Yeah. There was a credit on the original press release that went out to the radio announcers, just not on the web site where it mattered.

I have the Manfrotto one, and a cheap one I got from PhotoContinental. The "cheap" one was $40 if I remember correctly, and I had two until wind blew my brolly over and the screw sheared off.
Quite happy with the Manfrotto one for now.

BINGO!

I think it depends on your market. "onesix" could work for the modern yuppy market of fashion shoots and whatnot.

BTW I would recommend spelling it "one-six" otherwise you'll get weirdos trying to pronounce it as one word... on-ess-ix

Alternatively, go with one-six and then prove the world wrong and make it into a well known brand. It'll be a bit harder initially as nothing about it says photography to the average Joe, but if you work at it might just come together.

Although yes it is my current age, it's also the age that i realised that i would like to pursue photography as a career, so it is more then just my current age.

Do any one of you limit the size of your photos (kb) on your website so they can't print them? Ive been saving them 160-180kb but not sure if I should start making them less.

I'd add some shadow in there somehow, maybe a small harsh one rather than a soft one. Cut off the edges of the rectangle covering the N so it's only in the diamond and maybe fit 'photography' under the ND on the inside edge of the diamond. Definitely a good idea but just expand on it a bit more and you'll be fine.

I might make up a "logo" tomorrow instead of just using text all the time. If I can be bothered

Anything that goes on the web (Flickr for me), I export from Lightroom at 500px on the long edge. They end up around 100-200kb depending on detail, colours, etc but they definitely don't work for a 6x4/5x7. My sister printed one by accident

I export for web in lightroom using 75% quality and long edge of 1064pixels.

Seems to work for me.

Nic,

One thing I learnt in typography classes was not to stretch words. Pretty much most design ideas are acceptable bar that. In short (there is a long winded explanation) it always looks awkward.

Secondly, I think this could work however the rectangle in the triangle with the mirrored colour scheme is what's making it look busy. You're obviously going for a symmetrical balance with it, so you need to keep that idea in mind. Instead of adding a shape on top, maybe have the mirror on the diamond shape that's already there. (Ie. from top to bottom down the centre). This will give it the balance you're after, and it will stop the left side looking busy.

Just my 0.02c

I also think softer colours might work for you. Black Vs White the extreme for contrast.
