Yep, Dan's. It should hopefully be here today :) Still need to sell my classic! I've had a few people ask about it but nothing for sure yet.

Yeah, I just didn't want to go to eBay straight away. I'll probably chuck it up later on the week once I've received the 1D2. I would prefer someone to pick it up before I put it up but as long as it sells somewhere soon then I'll be happy :)

Oh definitely. I hate car shopping.....The problem with buying second hand is you're buying someone else's problems.I certianly don't - I much prefer someone else to take the depreciation hit.
We brought a VZ Calais when they were on their last legs just before the VE came in. We brought an ex-GM one with under 10,000km in mint condition.
The original depreciation hit had been taken (by GMH, so that didn't really matter to them) and we thought that the price was very reasonable....
I'd certainly do that again.....

Cant wait until I move out so I can have the records and the turntable set up properly and so I can get to them without moving stuff as well.

Unlucky. The camera hasn't come today still either! On eBay someone made an offer of $50 for the 18-55 kit lens, I've got it up for BIN $75. I think I'm just going to take that :p
If anyone's interested, I've also got a 2nd gen iPod nano (2GB) up for $50 or $60 BIN: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120462615537&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT#ht_500wt_1182

I was going to but I knew I needed so much money so I just did that. Although the 1D classic isn't up yet... I'm not sure what I'll do with that one because on eBay I'm not sure what I'll get for it.
Someone's already watching the iPod, is it you Clarry?
Edit: I think I'd get an alright price for it on eBay actually. There's two in the completed listings, one for $650 with 80,000 clicks and which gets Err 99 shooting 8FPS in RAW and the other for $570 which has been dropped on the hotshoe. As far as I know, mine has no more than 35,000 clicks and there's no problems like the other two that have sold recently.

Not sure if anyone would remember/care but I got a HTC something or other last year with 3 and had problems with it from day one. Established the keyboard was cactus and took it back to get repaired with 3 days left of the warranty. Had read horror stories from whirlpudlians about how bad the service was for repairing these things in Oz and was preparing to wait several months before getting it back. Anyway, had the unit back less than 2 weeks after I dropped it off!
Hadnt used it since getting it back though, but thought I would have a good look around at apps and such to make it usable. Found a good replacement for the HTC dialer and also for the default contact list thing. Also found that microsoft wrote a decent facebook app as well that I like better than the iPhone one. Grabbed a free browser as well, skyfire, like safari and works great. Wouldnt mind trying it on a device with a higher res screen and a bit more grunt, anyone want to give me a HTC Touch HD? ;)
Also found a few options for syncing it with the mac, they cost but not too much.

I have a rather banged up 24/2.8 too. The only thing I use it for is IR photography because it is one of the few lenses that doesn't create hot spots.
The 20 is quite odd... bigger than the 50/1.4 and for some reason Canon decided to give it a 72mm filter thread. I think it is one of maybe 3 in their arsenal that has that...
Quick test shots out of it look fairly decent. Corner sharpness is better than expected even at f/2.8 it looks almost as good as the centre.

It's not a bad lens (the 24). I just need the zoom and considering it's not f/2 or f/1.8 or something, I'm not really losing much by going to a 28-75. I'd say the 28-75 has better IQ as well (just from what I've seen from it on the net).
And yeah, I just saw on the-digital-picture.com's page of the 20. It's massive! It's weird how it's so big.

Yeah, not sure why so big (OK, it's not huge but I would have thought a lens with bigger aperture and longer focal length would be the larger one...)

On the subject of batteries, I ran my AAA Immedions through the break-in mode on my C9000. Took about 32 hours and it says to use that every 20 charges?!?!? So if you buy a whole stack of batteries it could be weeks before they are all ready for use. ???

Nah, no more cheating. The plastic on the base means I'm not getting that bad shadow. It's actually easier to stick the gel on, get the shot.

Yes & no. I don't like the off set shadow. I think if you had the flash more in front and slightly higher you'd negate the effects of the shadow to her left side.
Couple this with having her hang from the rings and away from the wall and you may hide the shadow completely.
Now if I could think about this when I was taking a photograph I'd be stoked. Otherwise, I like the composition but I feel a little more drama is required.

I like the lighting and processing, great texture on the wall too. A couple of things that i noticed are: 1. The arms appear awkward, the way she is holding the hoops is an un-natural position, might have looked better with thumbs pointing upwards. 2. The knees came off second best with the contrast and processing, might benefit from a bit of smoothing.

Not sure Dave... seems a bit hot round her face and I think it would have been good to add a very low power softbox to her legs just to warm up their colour a bit. Maybe try a B&W conversion? Although I don't find the shadow too distracting it would be nice if it were a little softer.

seems a bit hot round her face and I think it would have been good to add a very low power softbox to her legs just to warm up their colour a bit. Maybe try a B&W conversion? Although I don't find the shadow too distracting it would be nice if it were a little softer.
Yeah b&w works, but you still end up with the hard shadow.

Hey guys, does this work ?
Single snooted, gridded 580exII camera left on the head only. Extra contrast added in post.
I don't like the way the torso legs get so dark. I think if it were a half body shot the lighting would work.
I guess what Dan said, I'm in agreement with. lol

LOL@Damo and Phil
Damien - its worth it if you spend alot of time using brushes, the pen sensitivity makes it possible to get very accurate brush strokes. If most of what you do is cloning and healing then a good laser mouse is fine. In fact sometimes when I get lazy I just use my mouse... though its a logitech G9 where you can adjust the DPI (sensitivity to movements) on the fly.

Rai33
25th of August 2009 (Tue), 22:22
Damien - sorry I meant virtual brushes ie. those in post processing programs. Yeah the pen that comes with it is all you need. The advantage is as you adjust the pressure of the pen on the pad the brush stroke on-screen is also lighter/darker. Whereas with a mouse you'd just get one size and you would need to adjust the brush settings to get a finer/lighter stroke. Take a peek at this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vy_8k4Buwng

HTC blows chunks. Every one of our 12-ish Touch Duals has been back for repair at least once, some 3 times. Won't touch them again.

Do you know of a similar site to something like smugmug where the purchase and more specifically the print options are undertaken in OZ rather than in the US ? Now who needs to upgrade to FF or 1-series or move to Nikon when you've got spot metering on your 400D?!
I can honestly say I have barely ever used spot metering but I feel it's something I've neglected since I've had my classic. I'll try use it more now that I've got the Mark II

So it was an easy install I'm guessing. Nice one, Al! :D

It's pretty straight forward. My 8GB cards can't be made bootable though so without them I don't have the extra features.

The gearbox bill starts to stretch the friendship too after a while :(only if you're dumping the clutch racing cars off the lightsAlso starts to strain it a bit if you are pushing more power than stock...Comes with the territory. I don't push mine that hard.My 400D now has spot metering.

EDIT: Wait, does this mean I need to set up all my cards for this?Yep. This is a safety mechanism. It means that if your camera crashes, you can just swap out to a non-chdk card and all will be restored. (you may need to pull your battery). Oh yeah. check out the scripting - among other features.

Edit: Waiting for my A590. I bought a P&S simply so that I could hack it. I think this may have a little sadness associated.
From my reading, the earlier versions were VxWorks IIRC, a flavour of unix. How cool would it be to be able to rsh into your camera. Rsync would be pretty cool, too. (is there a totally nerd smiley?)

A bit of crap. Nice features but the delivery is too gimicky. IS there a way to implement this on my cards that are larger than 4GB?

I thought I'd be ok with a Tamron 28-75 but I'm contemplating waiting until after my birthday and part of the summer holidays to see if I can possibly afford a 16-35... I'm crazy  I'd be stuffed if I needed to buy a car.
Edit: I want/need USM and the build, that's why I'm thinking about it. I'm spoiled by the 1D2 + 70-200 :p Or go for an older 17-35 or 16-35 mark I to save money and buy a 400/5.6? I like that idea.

A bit of crap. Nice features but the delivery is too gimicky. IS there a way to implement this on my cards that are larger than 4GB?From what I can tell (only 99.5% sure), the CHDK has no effect upon your camera's original memory limits. That is set by the FAT 32 filesystem. As of this evening I was reading that
File system
Operating system FAT FAT32 NTFS HFS+
Windows 2000 4 GB* 32 GB 16 TB -
Windows XP / Vista 4 GB* 32 GB 16 TB -
Mac OS X 10.1.x - 128 GB - 2 TB
Mac OS X 10.2.x - 128 GB - 8 TB
Mac OS X 10.3.x - ( -> 128 GB) - 16 TB
Mac OS X 10.4.x - ( -> 128 GB) - 16 TB
Mac OS X 10.5.x - ( -> 128 GB) - 16 TBmeans that FAT 32 was only good for 32 GB. It sees my 320 GB USB drive just fine. The CHDK just takes advantage of a kernel hook and links itself into the the camera's OS. It unlocks some features of the dig!c chip and nothing else. It won't affect your card capacity at all. It's just a file that temporarily patches your firmware, each time you turn your camera on with a card with the chdk installed. If you want confirmation, set your camera to shoot without card, and having played with the CHDK, pull the card and see for yourself that the camera still works. It will.
Edit: I have a 16GB extreme III CF card. I'm prepared to risk trashing it.

CDA is the raw audio format music comes as on CDs...
Sounds a little strange. Tell her your DVD burner melted from over-use.

Yeah, that's the one I posted a couple of weeks ago, and Al and I got. One of these days I will get to install it...
I usually am, but it's been insane as we head into finals and that's combined with moving house...
If it's good, post a link. Anyone finds good stuff, post a link to share.
Good luck balancing your life at the moment, stay sane, errr, if you were sane to start with that is!;)
The clip was basic. not worthy of sharing.:(
