One from adelaide here, and i know there are quite a few more that dont visit here to often, if you take a look at my sig you will see an adelaide thread.

Subscribed. I will get my lazy ass out to meet some of the Adelaide folks sooner or later. ;)

Oh noes! Adelaide has weird weather and serial killers :P

And apparently churches and wineries. The churches dont really appeal to me too much apart from an architecture point of view, but the wineries... what a shame!

Bummer scott :(

Havnt really been paying attention since deferring uni for the semester, but is adelaide starting to pick up development wise?

Cant speak for the whole area since I really havent been paying too much attention until now. But for my company, they are apparently growing their business there at a rate of knots.

I still plan to return to Brisbane sooner rather than later to build that house we have put so much effort into.

Chris: I've already got the 70-200/2.8L non-IS :p I was going to get a Tamron 28-75 but now I'm thinking of a 16-35 or similar because I want the USM. Then if I save enough money by buying an older one I'll fill the gap with a 50/1.4 :)

Ed: Yeah I have  I just realised that I do use it more than I think and I want to keep the f/2.8

Hire / Borrow / Steal a 1.4x TC and go with the 1D3. It's still not going to be long enough, but it'll be better than 200mm. As Michael said, opting for full frame isn't going to make it any longer :P

Werribee Zoo isn't that exciting  I don't think I've been with my 70-200 but I went with my 75-300 on the 400D and it was ok. I'd go 5D2 with 70-200 + 1.4x maybe. The 5D2 because of the weight, unless you don't mind carrying around the 1D3 all day. Personally the animals don't interest me anymore so next time I go I'll be taking a wider lens to get shots of who I go with.

Edit: All good. It's just a 4-pin to 4-pin one, I never realised the 4-pin was so small compared to a 6-pin so I assumed the smaller one was called something else. Can get one for <$10 on eBay but I'll try find one local first.

Well you can't play with an OS partition while Windows is running so if you just have a single partition filling your entire disk you'll need to do it offline via an ATA/IDE to USB cable. I don't think Windows even asks you to set up partitions on install...

Ah...I don't know, to be honest, it's not something that has really interested me so I have never checked. I'm more into HF and general rag-chewing on the local repeaters.

I have a feeling it does. I just installed XP on a new hdd in the kids laptop the other day and I think it gave the option to set up partitions...I didn't, so i can't be sure. Pretty sure it did back in the NT and 2K days

I should have said good luck with your exam. Which level are you going for ? I am a Standard license holder, which used to be called Novice in the old days, when you had to do 5wpm Morse.

I think I remember reading that Samsung hard drives are just rebadged Western Digitals, so if true then they're fine. Even if they're not WD's, you'd think they'd be alright.

Edit: Andrew how are you liking your 1D2? Phil got one recently to take over his 400D and I got rid of my 400D (and will get rid of the 1D classic when it eventually finds someone who wants it!) for a 1D2. I'm loving mine so far.

Question - Does anyone know how to partition a hard drive in Windows 7?Few variables... do you have an SSD?
Are you already in Windows 7?
Are you comfortable with command line?

I recommend diskpart :) but I just do mine when I install Windows7. It also aligns my partition for the SSD.

Also you can't set a logical partition as active, you need to delete the partition and create it as a primary (or use a third party WYSIWYG like Paragon Partition Manager) before you can set it as active.

Thanks, just sticking with foundation license for now. Like the callsign i can get VK2FOTO. What is this about sun spots?

Nice callsign..hope no-one steals it out from under you before you pass your license ! :p

Sunspots have a dramatic effect on HF propagation. At when the sunspot cycle is at a high point, you can get amazing DX, hence the "work the world on 10 watts into a bit of damp string". When it's at a low point, like now, good DX is much harder to find, unless you have kilowatt output and massive antennae

http://www.radio-electronics.com/info/propagation/ionospheric/hf-propagation-sunspots.php

Even as a Foundation license holder, you can work the 10, 15, 40 and 80m bands (http://www.wia.org.au/licences/foundation/about/) (http://www.wia.org.au/licences/foundation/about/%29).

Only downside for city-dwellers is that HF antenna setups aren't exactly small or subtle (this is a smallish setup, couldn't find any bigger ones as qrz.com is down atm) (http://www.ki5dr.com/k5na.htm) (technically, these are decidely average pics too, for a photography forum :) ). I guess a decent multiband vertical wouldn't be too bad, but towers and big beams are pretty much out.

Don't you hate it when someone calls from a private number and they don't leave their number on voicemail?No...That's the best !! That's why I don't have voice-mail or and answering machine !!

Generally, if someone rings me, they want something. So, when I had voicemail, they'd leave a message "Come and help me with ....", and of course they knew that you would receive the message so now the monkey is on MY back.

If they want to talk to me, they can keep the monkey until they can actually talk to me.

This way I don't look rude by not returning their calls, and as an added bonus, quite often their problems fix themselves without my help, or they weren't really that important, so I don't have to do whatever it was they originally wanted me for anyhow !!

..... Oh noes! Adelaide has weird weather and serial killers :P

Bodies found in house fire ruins at Old Noarlunga

The couple, aged in their early thirties, lost their lives in the pre-dawn blaze at a house in a modest suburban street south of Adelaide. Last night, it was unclear how they died but police were treating their deaths as suspicious.
The Advertiser understands one of the victims was restrained, but police would not confirm this.CH

Actually, the old G4 still does everything I need perfectly, except for photo work and heavily graphical things like the surf-club newsletter I edit. I feel like a traitor leaving it for a newer shinier model

I am sure that will pass, eventually tho :)

The missus wants to get into editing videos etc too, so that was the main reason I got permission.

Got pulled over today for not giving way to a pedestrian who had just stepped off the curb on the opposite side of the road to what i was turning on too, over 5m away from the lane i was turning into, plus i had a green to turn... If at a pedestrian crossing, you'll lose. Your only chance would be if you entered the intersection prior to the pedestrian leaving the curb, and they crossed contrary to Do Not Walk light.

The law and common sense do not mix.

I'm feeling like a right idiot this morning - I was putting a stamp on the back of 39 8x12" prints to deliver to a client. It was a new stamp and I didn't realise the ink remained wet for some time and I've managed to smudge ink on all but one print. So I have to get them reprinted (and wear the cost myself).

If only it were that simple. They are for guests that attended a major fundraising dinner last weekend - only the client and guests get to see them.

If they were concert shots chances are that ink smudges would be lost in the generally black backgrounds.

Probably not much consolation, but as they say, "Sh!t happens" !!

When you get them reprinted, Can you GIVE the "spoiled" prints to your client and get some brownie points with them "Here's a second set for free" ??

I'll be destroying the first prints. If they're not up to scratch the client won't see them. I'll let the client know there was a problem with the first set and that I am having them re-printed - that's all.

Hey, does anyone here have experience with OS X, network USB hubs and USB printers?

I've been wanting to set my old Epson R350 up so I can print from my laptop, while I'm my room. Recently I got a great deal on a Belkin Network USB Hub... yet this whole process is FAR from intuitive.. ::confused: I've had experience in setting up network printers before (at cadets), but this is slightly different that I can type the IP address of the hub.. however I don't know how to tell it that there is a printer attached to the hub.. ><

Any help or ideas would be muchly appreciated. :)

According to David Hobby, they've been loosing too much $$ on this service and were going to stop it altogether, but Hobby says he convinced Rosco of the usefulness of the little gels, and that is why they have started supplying these........
