So, I finally got around to writing something for that photography job at uni. Does this sound ok?
Hi,
I realise it’s a little late, but I noticed in Blitz (S2.W6) an advertisement for casual photographers. I am interested in this opportunity, as I have been seeking a way to combine my interest in photography with my university life. I have also been interested in gaining experience into live music and club/party photos, as a way of expanding my photographic horizons.
About me: I’m 20 years old and currently in my second year of a Civil Engineering/Commerce double degree.
Photographic Experience: I don’t have a “portfolio” per se, however I can link you to an online gallery of my work - http://www.flickr.com/photos/amcintyre/
Within the gallery, more notable work would include photos taken for the Australian Air Force Cadets (there should be a link to the collection on the right side of the gallery). From 2007-2009 I served as my Squadron’s “official” photographer, documenting events and activities as well as organising annual portraits for in excess of 100 cadets. Many of these photos were also used in an editorial capacity, as part of the Squadron’s regular newsletter.
The rest of my gallery consists of photos from a variety of other genres – anything from travel photography to portrait sessions with friends.
Regards,
The Moose

More from RP about the JrX system - they have stated the Px system should be shipping at the end of the third quarter.
We are not sure at this time if the JrX will be available at the same time. As of right now we only know about the Px system. Further updates will be listed on our website as they become available. We appreciate your continued patience.
Ah, hope they will reveal RRP for both the PX and JrX units soon.

It was a bug where if you insert any removeable media, it will pop up with the LIghtroom import dialog box, regardless of whether you disabled it or not.
Apart from that, I think it's just a camera RAW update.

UGH!
HFS+ Explorer (free), allows you to essentially copy all the files from an HFS drive to an NTFS drive.
MacDrive (paid), decent, transparent read/write in windows. It doesn't work in Windows 7 in my experience.

Through the chat he recommended a few ways in which he thinks that i could gain experience or make a buck or two with my photography. I thought it was worth looking into so i thought i might ask here.
Do you think working for an event photography company would be beneficiary for the experience or would building a portfolio then going after assisting job's at studio's be of more use?

I really like a fair bit of windows 7, the taskbar makes everything feel much more structured than the dock/expose... It feels much faster, even using macdrive to get to the HFS+ volume my lightroom library is on feels faster than 10.5.6 for some reason... In general most of it just feels snappier...
I'll keep using it for a while then choose, after I have installed snow leopard as well...

Depending on what kind exactly, event photography is unappealling to me now. If I have to cover the event, sure I'll do that. But if I have to cover the crowd, it doesn't interest me. I don't want to take photos of people with head on flash just so they can be like OMG I'M AWESOME!
You could do the portraiture route. Make up a bit of a portfolio with friends, ModelMayhem even? Then look for assisting jobs.

The finder in the pre 10.6 days has always been slow, basically unchanged from the Rosetta days (aka 10.1). I find that after the release of 10.6, the whole OS is much faster especially when it comes down to browsing through Finder as it had been rewritten. Also, I've hated Expose before because it would randomly throw all the windows, now it is all locked into grids making it easier to find what you need.
Verdict, OSX for leisure and Win7 for work. The whole iCal/Address Book/Mail combination simply does not beat Exchange and I have grown into DOS. I love both :)

Couldn't find the ISO thread. Probably a good thing ;)
Tbh, I spend most of my online time on another forum (it's why I am not here thaaat much :p). As a moderator of a Battlefield 2 gaming forum (www.bf2s.com  and no, I don't play anymore.. I just stay to help out in the "community" side of the forum), I would prefer to deal with the stuff some of those teens come up with, as opposed to the head-bashing over insignificant details in these 7D threads.

Yeah, so instead I spent last night finishing an engineering cadetship application letter. Really ended up wasting my time , but that's another story/rant..

What's wrong with BF2? :p I play it from time to time, but not for a few months because I've forgotten about it. Got some spare time tonight. Shoot or play BF2? I think I might shoot for once

After a long night of homework i got talking to my dad and started chatting about work and photography.
What are people's thoughts on this and are there any other ways the could be looked at?
The basic wquestion you need to ask yourself is what do you enjoy taking photos of... If events are your cup of tea then go for it... If it is wedding photography, I would suggest playing assistant to a good wedding photographer... get the experience then keep on shooting. That is what I love about digital photography -- experimenting without real cost...
You guys have nuthin, I have a 540ez, solid as a tank!
For a laugh read this post, only 10 hours old and up to 8 pages. Gooble gets a pasting from Romy the OP for his comments, lesson: never upset a smiling Filipino! Fun starts from page 2

Some people really have nothing better to do... and don't know when they have enough foot in their mouth... As for Romy, I'm sure glad he can hold things down... (and that from another smiling Filipino...)

Bugger... though what discipline in engineering are you going for? There are heaps of branches that are well worth your time if you care to pursue... and then again, it just also depends on what your interests are... Good luck though with what you decide.
