Yes, very ghetto, but theres something about making something yourself. I do it all the time, whenever I can. As long as it gives you the results you're looking for, then mission assomplished.

Looks nice. Sure, anyone can simply press the "order" button and pay $20-50 for a grid or snoot or whatever, but one valuable thing about DIY is that you learn a whole lot more about how light gets modified and behaves depending on what material you use, etc. than just getting it off the brown truck delivery.

whoa, I beg to differ! it doesn't look ghetto at all!
I'll probably try this sometime but I don't have a light stand... nor any real need for it as well. heh

I have seen other DIY straw grids where the color the the straws contributed to the color of the light through them. Are you seeing any color shifts with yours or the mix balancing the colors out?

i have only used it for that test shot above, i mainly wanted it for spotting a model/bride in the day light...

Well, I for one made a straw grid. Decided that my time would be better spent doing something else than using it to glue cut up straws together so I decided for my second grid to simply press the "order" button and pick up the Honl grids. Worth it IMHO.
