I see John is a fellow Central Michigan University Alum. Nice...
Looks like a pretty full day of learning.
Hey, Fire up Chips! :)
It looks like a great seminar but I have finally convinced my husband that he should try camping with me and that's the weekend we have chosen. If I cancel, I may never get him into a tent! :D

Anyone want a Domke vest? I have an XL in khaki that is practically new. I only wore it a few times. It is too big for my skinny self now. :p Never got it sweaty or dirty. $50 sound good?

testing it and it's an interesting setup for the iphone. only thing though is that I'm unable to head back to the homepage after say going through your port. I hit a button on top left and it takes me back to the webpage that I was on before yours. the text is quite small even with my binocular glasses any other questions/comments you want from me, I just emailed you and if it works you have a way to get back to me
Thanks Ryan. I tested it today... just glad people can see it on their cell phones....and if for some reason a person doesn't have the Flash plugin installed... there is an HTML version of the site out there as well.
Working on the blog at the moment... good times!

Looks like it's all coming together nicely Frank. Well Done.
Off to Vegas in the morning for the ISAP Symposium. Nervous as hell to put my images on display next to some of the best in the aviation-photography business but you have to step off the ledge eventually. Just hope I don't get shredded too badly.
We get to shoot from between the runways at Nellis AFB on Friday! That ought to be pretty cool as there is a Red Flag exercise going on right now with B1 bombers in the mix. May need the 17-40!
Have a great week/weekend all...

Alright, some new web site CC. I am starting a sister company to Steven Michael Photography called Puzzle Piece Photography. As a father of 3 special needs children I have discovered that there are hardly any, if any at all, photographers that do Special Needs so my wife and I are deciding to do it as we know the challenges of taking these photos. I made a simple flash site (don't mind the deep lack of contact, it's still in the works) and am just looking for some basic CC. The color scheme (yellow, blue, red and light blue) are the autism communities color scheme.
Thanks

Yeah that is a problem I have been having is sizing the site. WIX doesn't do a good job at it. I don't need anything too fancy because my market isn't going to be too fancy either. Just as long as they can somewhat read it :)

The wildflower walk sounds good to me if I had time for something else..
Also, I have a 65 foot mast for sale on CL and have a gentleman coming by to look at it. I use it for elevated/aerial shots of local real estate. If anyone here is interested in such a thing, let me know..

I love zenfolio (don't care for the price tag that goes with it) for the ease and everything. Wix is good if you have the time and want to really personalize your site. I just have my domain through 1&1 and have the premium for wix (4.95 a month) so I can use my own domain name. I wanted my site to reflect that which parents of children with autism seek. Easy and fun. Unless you have ever really dealt with trying to photography children with autism (we will just say that most family pictures will have the kids back or side of their head) you really don't understand how frustrating it is and patient you must be. But I really feel that it is a market that is both untapped and highly needed.

It's actually pretty inexpensive compared to other styles, but 3500.00. It was manufactured in Germany and assembled in Canada. I have a custom built Carbon Fiber, remote controlled gimbal that allows 360 Pan and 360 Tilt. (Not part of it, but could be) It has the ability to be used wired or wireless, depending on what you want to do. If I sell it, I plan on upgrading my 70-200 to a Canon with IS and a 100-400 lens..Sooooo I would consider a little trading there as well..

Any suggestions?

Back from Vegas in one piece. Had a great week despite feeling very much like a small fish in a very big pond. My images were well received and I know that next time I'll have no qualms about displaying prints as well as submitting images for a bio as well.

Feedback most welcome. Time to flake out for the night I think...
Good to be home.
BTW, there were quite a few little purple flowers along 74 from Wickenburg Way to I-17 going past Lake Pleasant so I would agree that wildflowers are probably imminent! Let's go find some one of these days.

Hey, while doing my T&I photos Saturday, one of the fathers was looking for head-shots. I told him I would look around for someone. If anyone is interested, can you pm me a price and contact email. I will then forward your info on to him. He apparently does tv commercial type modeling..
Thanks,

Also, he is in the East Valley..

So many posts to catch up on! I've been traveling for work, slammed at work after being gone and then sick from traveling. :( It looks like everyone has been posting great stuff. I finally got a copy of my magazine cover and hopefully a box will be delivered this week.
Saturday I might meet up with a couple photographers at Vulture Mine. The last time I was there I really didn't know what I was doing with a camera.
Any plans for a wildflower meet up? I've got an appt in the morning, but then I thought I'd check out Bartlet Lake and see what the flower situation is out there.

Kristy - lovely photo, adorable young lady. :) I confess that I covet your skills with natural light. Do you use any modifiers at all, or did you set up the room somehow to enhance the soft light?
Just heard a quick ad for the Ansel Adams exhibit at the Phoenix Art Museum. Would like to see that with my colleagues from POTN. I work just up the road from there - maybe we could do it after work some day? Weekends are so busy lately...

Haha.. thanks Dean.. this was just a snapshot... playing around. It was cloudy and raining that day, and she wanted me to take some pictures of her with her baby... I pulled out a silver foam core sheet to bring in some fill.. Basically it was leaning against my legs and chest while I tried to hold the camer over it and frame her face... It was inches from her because it was so dark that day.... appreciate the kind words... but it's a snapshot.. haha.. typical of me... snapshot queen.

If anyone is interested in getting a crack at shooting some truly classic aircraft, the Collings Foundation will be back in Arizona in April with their B-17G, B-24 and P-51C...
Hopefully they'll get enough riders to fly at each location. In any event, you can walk out to and around each aircraft as well as tour the interiors. IIRC, they get somewhere between $5 and $15 to do so at each stop.

The RT, whether 1150 or 1200 is the perfect long haul bike. If you can find one, a later 1200RT might have ESA (electronic stability assistance) besides ABS and even cruise control.

I don't need lights and bells. I've been riding for 40 years. ABS or any of that other stuff is nice, but fluff to me. That aside, I'm not shunning it. I understand that along with BMW ownership comes many gadgets and gizmos.

By and large, people here are adults capable of doing their own research and balancing the specs/price against their needs/wallets.

Also, a nice carbon tripod and head. My Manfrotto I have now is very nice, but it's not backpack small, or backpack light.
Maybe a Speedlite also. Which one?
Yeah, an unexpected check showed up in the mail today, and I'm burning it up at B&H.

If you can find the first versions of the 580ex or 430ex flashes you can get them for a decent deal. still work well, just doesn't have the weather sealing if you want that. I still even use a 420ex flash and wouldn't mind getting more of those.
Scott, maybe you should get THIS (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/800622963-USE/Canon_2527A001_Super_Telephoto_1200mm_f_5_6L.html) .
HAHAHA...and then don't forget to let us all borrow it :-D

I am not qualified to comment on Canon gear choices :)
Yeah, why to we let this Nikon user hang around here anyway? :p
I have the Manfrotto 055XB Pro/486RC2, and would love to have it in CF. If you want smaller, maybe the 190CXPRO3 (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=&sku=548524&is=REG&A=details&Q=)?
Too big folded. This needs to go on my Tamrac back pack, so I'm looking for a folded length of less than that. The tripod doesn't have to be badass. It's for those times I take my gear on the KTM out to the middle of nowhere on occasion.
Money no object? I like the Gitzo CF. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/548364-REG/Gitzo_GT1541T_GT_1541T_Traveler_6X_Carbon.html
Nice, but I've already burned up the money I had budgeted, and then some. I may now wait on the tripod until I can spend more money without the check book wincing.
This new ballhead by Arca Swiss is kick ass, but spendy: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/658840-REG/Arca_Swiss_801213_Monoball_P0_with_Panning.html
This Acratech ballhead is also uber cool: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/250107-REG/Acratech_1110_Ultimate_Ballhead_with_Quick.html
Everything we buy is spendy and cool.

I quit making gear suggestions after about the 10th time someone came back bitching and moaning after buying something other than what the majority had originally suggested.
By and large, people here are adults capable of doing their own research and balancing the specs/price against their needs/wallets.
Understood.
I'm more than happy to give feedback on something if I personally use it but blind reccomendations? Nope, not any more...
And I'm betting you don't use the 10-22 EF-S.
That seems to be the only lens that would fill the gap in my lens lineup. as far as EF-DS lenses go, I have the cheapo 18-55 kit lens amd the 28-135 kit lens. In regular EF lenses, I have the 85mm F/1.8, a 100-300 which I never use, the 70-200 F/2.8L IS, and the 400mm F.5.6L.
From looking at that list the lack of a decent quality wide lens is apparent.

Don't know if you're opposed to third party lenses, but I am very happy with my Sigma 10-20. Very sharp and nice colors. 10mm is lots of fun! best part is I picked mine up for about $400 used.
Here's a few:

why don't you use the 100-300? I thought about picking it up since it's cheap and just use it for some shots around the zoo. it's longer than my 200 so I would hope to get some decent closeups
Picky, aren't we?

haha...500 isn't being picky...:-D

From Facebook....
onOne Software is releasing free versions of PhotoTools 2.5 and PhotoFrame 4.5. These are great plug-ins, and the Free versions don't have a time limit or watermark—they're fully functional. What a great way to give customers a taste of onOne products. Check out onOne Exchange and onOne University on the same site page, too.

Dean, I have thought about trying other brand lenses, but I haven't had the courage yet. And I PM'd you my cell #.
Ryan, it's not a bad lens, but having that 70-200 L glass makes it tough to want to toss on the 100-300 when the former reaches fairly well in most cases.

I sometimes use PhotoTools when doing my PP. They have some nice stuff in there and the new update released finally allows their software to work properly with Win7 64bit. I have been using Nik Software for Lightroom. Their software works great for my needs. But if OnOne is offering up free software, can't beat that with a stick.

NOTHING is really free, you might think it is, but there always seems to be some kind of catch.
You like cheerleaders? Just don't forget that there is a basketball game going on in the background that you should be watching.

Are you having a hard time paying attention to the game, try a game without cheerleaders, like hockey.

haha, well I actually got to try Joyce's 1.4 tc and was loving the reach I could get inside of Monkey Village at the zoo. I'm actually planning a little project for myself cause I'm having a hard time identifying the monkeys (they used to wear collars) so I was just looking for a way to get in nice and close with the monkeys to help me get some nice headshots of the monkeys.
