I haven't been down to Sierra vista for a while, was out at 51st and dobbins the last 6 or 7 months and no I am at Luke AFB rewiring the runways and taxiways. here is a question for you, why is directly behind the F-16's while they are taxiing is the quietest place? the front intake is earshattering caming at you, but when the jet exhaust is pointing straight at you it is almost silent? (hotter than hell, but very quiet)

The four cycles of a jet engine are really basic:
- Suck (Intake)
- Squeeze (Compression)
- Bang (Ignition)
- Blow (Exhaust)

It's the Suck/Squeeze part where air is being ingested and compressed that make it so loud. This is why jets are so dangerous in the front hemisphere even when they're at idle.

Now in zone 5 afterburner on takeoff, the ass end is awfully loud as well.

Need any construction site shots taken? ;)

 We are about to start a project turning the 143 back into 44th street. dunno why they would want to go from a freeway to a surface street, but they want to pay someone to do it so it might as well be me!

Hmmm... I was wondering what was planned. I've noticed that project coming back to life (fresh barrels and baricades.) Are they going to tie the 143 south coming out of the airport into the 143 where it crosses the 10? IOW, eliminate having to turn left on University then right onto the 143?

As for additional testing, well, I have to go out of town in the morning so I'll just have to suck it up and wait on a second opinion. If I'm unhappy after I get back from Charlotte, I'll let you know! :p

yes, that is the loudest part! they were doing a lot of afterburner takeoffs today and that would rattle me, even though they were a couple hundred feet high by the time they got to where we were (south EOR)

I have heard security is on high and cameras are watched very closely when us civvies have them

i'm not sure what the exact plan is, i haven't seen any prints yet (i'm not that high on the totem pole yet) I can let you know when I find out. from what I have heard the 143 will no longer be 143, it will be 44th St. no highway, just a surface street.

135 is an amazing lens... . I still cant' decide between that and the 70-200. The 135focus is so acurate, and quick.. lovely! Glad you are having fun with it Jay...

Here's something from today... a mom took this one to a national chain for her first birthday photos.. they came home with nothing... she was very disappointed... so she asked me if I could try to get some pics of her.... and she would pay me whatever.... so what to charge a person that already pays me for a weekly service?

Lighting is quick and dirty.. I had about 7 little ones today, so I tossed up some lights and had some spill from the BG light that I didnt' notice until later...... blah...

Here's a quick story board... having a problem with white balance.. how's the color looking? I even used my calibration target, but the skin tones seem odd to me.... More here....

Think she is going to be very excited to see these. Great job all around! Did you use the target and set a custom WB in camera ? The skin looks nice on my monitor.

What to charge.... call it a "mini session" charge 1/2 the normal rate and let her buy prints at the standard rates? Nothing for free! ROFL!!! :) :D

Frank,
Same lens, I guess I'm not used to the lens(hand holding) I need to start using a tripod to reach out there.
I think with the 70-200f/2.8 and the 1.4 ext, this lens will eventually go on the blocks, but for now I want to try it and the 70-200 to see which I like better, then I will probably trade one for a different lens.............

Those were some sweet shots posted. Ruckuss, that paint looks pretty cool! too bad its on a Ford!:p wish I could give yhou tips on cloning out the guy in the drivers seat, but all I know how to do is clone stamp.
Kristy, your shots look great on my comp! Mom and dad should be very happy with those! I would be!
Randy, if you want me to test out that lens let me know! I will come pick it up and everything! looks nice and sharp to me.
Jesse, I like the car. IMHO I would clone out the No Parking sign coming out of the top of the car. Number 2 looks like a good time! nothing beats ice cold Jack and a splash of Coke! :D (I got a red x for the last pic.)
Jay, nice find on your urban GBH! I still think you should give that lens to me. I mean send it to me for further testing:p

Hey Jay, dumb question, but I bet you are also a pilot?

I always wanted to get a pilot license, but check out my little story. I never had any money for lesson when I was in college. Then after I got my job in Tucson, I never had any time to do lesson. The ironic thing is that, my former boss is a certified flight instructor! Oh well... :D

At work today they held a Health Fair and during lunch they had a speaker come in. The lunch room is Fluorescent light overhead, window light (through double paned glass with some inert gas), basically a mess. I closed the shades behind the podium but the windows to the east were open so really had some mixed lighting. Had to use the 580 on-camera (didn't know about the speaker until this morning so didn't bring my frame and off-camera cord).

Anyway, the speaker was Misty Hyman the 2000 Sydney Australia Olympic Gold Medalist (200 meter butterfly).

I'm having a fit getting this to look right, I know the column behind her is gray and the underside of the podium is a darker gray but her skin tones look off. Could be her makeup - forgot my color target at home, still unpacking from vacation.

I'm on my laptop Steve and while it is calibrated, it's a couple of weeks past due so take a giant grain of salt here.

Her skin tones look a little red. I wonder if you were to pull a white balance off the column but slide your tint a bit toward magenta (to combat the green in flourescent...?)

You're right, this is a bit of a tough one...

I need to look these over again, I can see the red tint (wondering if it's partly due to the red shirt - semi-spandex so very reflective and associated color cast - at least that's my current theory :) ).

Oh, I also found out that the project we are starting at the airport is an automated train. It is going to go from the 44th street and Washington light rail station down to the economy lots, then to the terminals, and finally to the rental car area. at one point it will rise 125 feet and travel over a taxiway, so that should be kinda cool.

12 hrs later and the wedding was over. We had fun and it was non stop all day long. All the families were really nice and just a fun bunch to be around. Not a huge pressure cooker... just kick back and have fun. The MUA we use did a wonderful job and all the ladies she worked on loved the hair and makeup.

I think Kristy and I have a new appreciation for wedding photography. LOL And I now see why shooters charge what they do.... :)

For our first wedding... I don't think there could have been a better one to shoot. All the family memebers were nice and we just there to have a blast.

We learned a lot... shooting at night sucks... that was one major lesson. If we take on more weddings... I see another investment in the future... "Q" flash heads and packs.... the speedlights worked alright... battery life wasn't an issue.... power was.

All in all.... lots of work.... lots of fun... hopefully it will lead to more business. :)

Hope everyone has had a fun weekend so far. Time to rest! :D

Ok... so I'm sick and tired of all this people crap. I think I'm going on a small little hike this Saturday. Horton Creek. I really need to shoot some scenery... that doesn't talk back.

So, of course, everyone here is invited. :D

Meet here. (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=34.339912,-111.096218&daddr=&hl=en&geocode=&mra=mi&mrsp=0&sz=17&sll=34.339707,-111.093503&sspn=0.004988,0.011373&ie=UTF8&t=h&z=17)

There is a spring at the end of the trail, about 4 miles one way. It's really not a bad hike at all. And extremely beautiful scenery all the way... specially right now. Check out this guys pics from Horton. (http://www.flickr.com/photos/22643992@N02/)

Depends on how fast you hike.

I've done it before... but with the Scouts and a hiking backpack, so we stopped half way to spend the night. But, I'm pretty sure it's only 4 miles. I'll have to check my GPS when I get home. I have the track saved on there.

And yeah I would rather go on a hike then to a bday party but it's also my wife's bday. Who knew the wife and my dad's bday would be on the same day

I'm going to guess... you landed some sweet deal... weren't you talking about that a few months ago? Maybe that was someone else...

Speaking of news...

The Mrs. called and she's been promoted to Senior Director of HR and been given (considering the world economy) a nice raise.

My future after July 11 just got even clearer! ;)

Whoo Hooo indeed...
Oh that's nice!! Raises are always good. I haven't gotten a raise in 3 years... :( lol

So what's your future after July 11th?

I have no excting news... so... I will just be happy for everyone else :) Congrats on the pay raise! Congrats to Brian for the happy event. :)
HAHA!! Same.

Ya know, despite the usual limitations, sometimes a simple bounced flash gives pretty good results:

Yeah...

It's covered in light grey Sonex (sound absorbing material) so it's a good neutral surface plus it scattered the light nicely. Sort of like a built in cloudy day.

I had the little white card up to toss a little kicker in the eyes (which I think worked...)

Yeah it looked like it worked. :)

According to Mr. Ziser (or whatever that guys name was from the seminar), using the little bounce card (or any other size) is bad. Puts harsh light on the subject. He even used a big old bounce disc and still did it.

I say it's not the light itself, it's the subject with oily skin. Shouldn't the MUA (if you have one) take care of that? And is it really that hard to wipe the face before a shoot?

I don't know... am I even close? lol
