Has this ever happened to any of you all?

I've had a close call before but fortunately they are still together. :)

Does anybody have any stories to share? What did you end up doing?

I am interested in hearing some of the stories.

I had a bride call me two weeks after the wedding and ask that I 'take out' some people that were in her photos. I guess those people sat in the bride's parents' seats during the ceremony, and refused to get up and move when asked to do so. There were quite a few images with those people in them, so I had to tell the bride it was going to cost her $100 per hour for me to fix all the photos. She agreed and I did it.
During another wedding, the bride's brother, who was gay, got drunk during the reception and decided it'd be a good idea to hit on his new sister-in-law's husband. The groom got really mad and there was an actual fistfight right there on the dance floor. I was torn between getting some great action shots and taking a less invasive approach (and getting more referrals!).

this is the reason I require full payment at the wedding day. Have a friend that it happened to. There was a wedding but they were separated by the time he was done with the images.

So did you end up getting good photos of the fight? j/k

I haven't had the "pleasure" of having a fight at any of the events that I've been to. Really don't know how I will react, hopefully I react appropriately. :)

How do you "refuse to move out of the bride's parents seats" Why weren't they simply kicked out? I hope she passed your $100/hr charge along to them.

Yeah, I was amazed at the audacity of those people (the ones who didn't move, not the bride & groom). The church had plenty more seats, too. As for the fighting groom and brother-in-law, I elected not to photograph it, since I thought a negative referral was worse than no referral at all.

I love these stories, especially since I don't do weddings anymore...

Out of the hundred or so weddings i've photographed two couples haven't picked up their proofs. I assume since I left a couple of messages and emails for them they must've split up, since they paid for 75% of their package in advance. Since I didn't have to spend time or money on an album i'm fine with not receiving the final 25%.

Had one cancel a few minutes after I had arrived. Since I had started shooting I wasn't sure what to do. Travel time was almost 2 hours total so I refunded most of the events payment but kept the initial deposit amount, government standard for travel and the cost of 2 rolls.
I had one cancel their event next month when I talked to them on Christmas day. Can't imagine they had a happy holiday. I also had one bride I shot last year tear up when she picked up their album while telling me how difficult married life is.

I would have been right in the middle of it getting the action shots...

John, why don't you do weddings any more? Because of this sort of drama?
