good shot, has lots of atmosphere to it. not sure i like the dark large pole on the right though, it kind of draws the eye away from the focus on the boy -

I agree with saltwater, but it does not ruin the image for me. Nice work in my opinion.

nice shot. again, your work outdoors is so much more impactful.
i would have waited for the first boy to separate a little from the second boy-but guess you can't do anything about that now.
i don't have a problem with the pole, it may even balance the picture.

I think it would be better without the pole, which is too strong for the other elements in the picture. Very nice perspective.

No tricks, I just took several shots as they walked by. I thought, one of them is bound to be good!

I like them all. I like the second picture better than the first, and though you can't do anything about the pole, in the first, I feel that cropping it would have left too much of the background atmosphere out, so don't feel bad about the pole! On a whole new level, the atmosphere is just as great in the second photo without the extra background, but the boys actions more than make up for it. It reminds me of when I was a kid growing up in an industrial sort of setting. Because of the feeling these invoked makes them great photos!
Cheers,
Cait

Good question.
I wanted to show life in poverty. I was in a very bad neighborhood. These boys know nothing other than what they have grown up in. To them, this is normal and ok, just routine, as good as it gets.

Whos to say if the photo is good really, sure people can point out things that would be nice to remove from the shot or a better setup choice for a gerneal audience but If it makes you happy then it's good!

The second pic is much better in my opinion. Which is what I think you posting them here and asking us "is this any good" is what you were after. I agree with exposingmyself that the seperation is what makes it better in my eyes, and that the pole was fine.
Picture-this has a very valid point but he did ask.

I disagree. I am not taking photos to please myself. I am more interested in pleasing the viewer and stirring up emotion when they see my work.
I dont want to do portrait photography, I want to shoot fine art. I want to stirr the soul.
So this is the reason why I ask for critique. I want to hear what the general concencous is...

It reminds me of some of the small canal towns nearby. There are literally economic divisions made by the canal and adjacent railroad tracks. Again, nice shots.
