I am going to be doing a good amount of traveling this upcoming year for school and I am looking for a backpack style bag that will fit my camera gear, but will also have a GOOD amount of room for non-camera related stuff. The camera stuff I will be carrying will be a canon 50d with a 28-135mm lense, 70-300mm lense, tripod, a filter or two, and just some other tiny stuff.. any suggestions? Also, I'm a college student, so money is on the low side.

Back in the old days when I was a starving student travelling with a smallish amount of gear, I just used a normal pack and let my clothes provide padding for the camera. Cheap and doesn't attract attention from thieves. At least not any more attention than all the other travelling colege students with all their stuff crammed into a backpack.

Take a look at North Face Surge. This thing can swallow a lot.

What about the Tamrac Adventure series (I think upto 9 is air travel compatible) or the Kata DR series? I think the Tamrac has more space for general stuff.
