Hey everyone,

I was kind of looking for a introduce yourself section on the forums but couldn't find one? My name is Matt, and I am relatively new to photography I have always felt a passion for it and decided to take a plunge and spend some money on a Canon 1000D with the standard 18-55mm IS lens, with an additional Canon 55-200mm lens.

My main interests are within the entertainment industries although I haven't had an opportunity to practice in low light conditions. I enjoy shooting anything at the moment but I quite like the idea of landscapes, night photography and performing arts. I am keen to learn and experiment, but I know it will take time. I have a deviant art account, so I thought I would share the link with you guys just to see general comments and criticism's. I

I am aware they are all not fantastic, but I am still learning quite a lot about composition!

Any comments are welcome and am keen for feed back.

Thanks,

Matt]

Welcome to the forum. You'll find people here to be generally very helpful. I would recommend that you post photos and not links. Very few people will take the extra effort to follow a link as opposed to viewing a photo and making a comment on it.

Hi Matt. It must take a special skill to see past those big watermarks -- I have a hard time with them.

#1 has that wide-angle look, which is nice. But about 60% of the photo is comprised of plain blue sky, which is relatively boring. I do like the effect of the receding tide in the foreground. And the island/peninsula adds perspective and interest, though it's not especially interesting in its own right. Not a bad photo, but leaves me wanting something more, though I'm not sure what.

#2 is okay, though I must admit there are very few photos of trailing car lights as the subject which tickle my fancy. Nice exposure, however.

Sorry about the watermarks, at the time of upload I didn't have any software that I could put my own more discreet labelling on. For number 1, I was trying to go for an empty wide feel as if there was nothing around. But I continue to learn non the less with each picture good or bad!
