Well, it has been 1 month and 2 days since my camera was sent to Canon Canada 1hr 30mins from here and I am sitting here, wondering what the heck is taking so long. I had a comon problem with the autofocus mirror not working, yet it takes forever to get it fixed?

Is this the kind of customer support I can expect from Canon, because I have missed a lot of photo opportuinities that I should of missed.

:(

Ah, this sucks.

That time frame does seem a bit excessive. I haven't had the requirement, thankfully, to send something to Canon for repair. I have taken my body and lenses in to have them calibrated when I first got the 10D and I had them back in 4 days.

What is Canon telling you for the time frame that it is taking.

I have read on here that service levels can vary alot between the various Canon service centers. Maybe Toronto is one of the slower ones. Any dealings that I have had with the one in Montreal has been a pleasant experience.

Change "should of missed" to "shouldn't have missed" will make it more clear.

Just a minor error in writing mechanics...;)

I hope this doesn't scare you but canon australia just took three months to service my 75-300 IS lens:eek:

Their service department are currently completely overwhelmed and will take some time to catch up aparently
I was told one month at first which i thought ok (i have other lenses i can use) but coming up to the three month mark i was getting mighty tetchy i can tell you  ;).
One of the reasons i didn't complain too much was because only canon can fix focus error problems.I asked a couple of other shops which are canon authorised service centers and didn't like what i heard. One (otherwise very good shop) didn't even know what i was talking about!

Anyway i tested the lens today and it focuses acurately now so i had a good ending

Well, guess what arrived today :D. Now I feel really stupid, as Canon has done an awesome job with the camera. My autofocus mirror was replaced under warranty, censor completely cleaned, AS well as the whole shutter being replaced! They tech guy at my store said they found a fault in my camera and replaced the faulty parts.

Thanks Canon, these are my apologies :).

My BG-E2 has been at Canon Canada for 3+ weeks now and it has not been touched yet.
I've called a couple times, and they say service will get back to me, but they never return my calls.
So far, I'm not impressed at all with my first experience with Canon service.

I must concur with some of the previous comments. I purchased a used 28-70 2.8 L about 8 weeks ago and noticed right away that focus was always soft. Took it in to a local shop (I'm in London Ontario too!!) and they sent it away to Canon Canada in Mississauga. Two weeks later I had word that a couple of the focus elements were loose and not functioning properly. Cost would be about $144 CAD. I said go ahead and now I am on my 5th week without lens. Pretty slow if you ask me but hopefully lens will come back working as it should. I had initially been told that turn-around time would be 3 weeks.

Often, a repair shop like that will make an initial time and cost estimate based on what they think is wrong. Once they get it all stripped down, sometimes they find one strange part that is missing or defective. If they have that part in stock, it does not slow down the completion. But, if they have to order up the part from Japan, it takes forever.

Sometimes, the repair shop is understaffed. They have general repair technicians who know how to do most of the standard repairs. However, if you hit them with something strange, there is only one tech in the whole shop who can handle it, so everything comes screeching to a halt until he can get to it.
