Couple City Photographs

Hey guys, just wanted to get your opinions on this. I'm just starting to learn all that exposure and stuff. But you guys are probably more professional than me so let me know. =)

Another city shot i decided to put up for today. I love this place a lot. The most exciting part about this city was the beaches and docks. Also the Monterey Bay Aquarium was pretty awesome as well. Great place for vacation!

I normally love walking. But walking up the San Francisco hills can be super tiring. All in all, The Hills of San Francisco are amazing.

The first one has that red car that totally distracts me, (not much you could do about that though) The second one, I like.

Here's just my opinion:
both of them are snapshots with post work that makes them look slightly artificial. I like simple subject matter so my poor brain knows where to look :) Simple down a notch:

creative use of depth of field
get close and personal with your subject
wait for a good light. If the light is not good just don't take a pic unless it's something out of ordinary. Otherwise it's just plain and boring. (Good light happens one hour before and 30 minutes after sunset (at least I consider it such)

Thanks you both. I just wanted to take some city photographs and see what i can do with them. But thanks for the critique.
