I have my Sigma 105 2.8 and a set of prooptic tubes but still cannot get any good shots of the eyes of some of the bugs in the yard. Just wondering what those of you that post those really great close ups of flys eyes and such are doing that I have not done? Do I need to add a reversed lens as well? I am just not getting as close as I would like.

Thanks..Bryan

You should be able to get good eye detail in larger flies starting around 1.5:1 magnification (half the tube length). Shoot with apertures around F8-F11 and use flash (camera in manual 1/200th, ISO100/200, F8-F11, flash in ettl). The higher contrast light from flash helps to bring out the eye detail.
Obviously shooting at higher magnifications can help but brings it's own problems of narrow DOF and lighting.

You really need to post a pic with exif data where you are not getting the detail you expect.

clancyman,
What bug? ??? As there are many bugs that need much more magnification for there eyes.

Like LordV said, you really need to post a photo with Exif so we can help ;)
