for the life of me, no matter where i slide my "sync timing" on my tt1, i still get front curtain clipping. my camera settings are 1/200 at f2.8. anything above that shutter speed photo is unusable with both bottom AND front clipping.
setup 1: 430ex on ettl on the hotshoe of a remote tt5 ---- front curtain clipping no matter how i slide that slider bar in the software (and yes i am clicking "set both configs"). 430ex has no master mode set, no slave mode switched on...
setup 2: sunpak 383 connected via manual jack on tt5 ----- varying amounts of front curtain clipping....this is super annoying!!!!
i cant figure this out, any help?

I have no experience with the new PW TT1 and TT5, but I do know that they will only allow High Speed Sync in full Canon ETTL mode.
There is no way it will work with the 383 because it is not Canon ETTL compatible. It will work with the 430EX, but only in ETTL mode.
Are you using ETTL?

I don't have either, but what in red might be part of your problem as the manual sync is just a dummy trigger. I don't think it know anything about hyper sync or high sync speed.

canon 5d mkI
connected via manual jack just means the TT5 is acting (or supposedly) as a regular plusII. you can either have the option of connecting a flash via hotshoe or via cable. oh well i emailed tech support. hopefully they can get back with some answers. i dont expect hypersync curtain problems with a flash connect via manual to the tt5! but what do i know about flash photography....

What I suspected tbh, 5Ds have a very sluggish shutter. Is there any way you can try this out on a different model of camera to see if it makes any difference?

hmm but shouldnt 200 sec be the same 200 sec on something like a 30D too?

No. The 5D has slower shutter curtains. That's the reason it can only normally sync at no faster than 1/200 whereas the 30D can sync at 1/250.

its not made to work w/your sunpak. did you update your firmware to the most recent? this newest update is supposed to fix that communication w/tt5 to 5d2 so im assuming 5d1 should be good to go also. rtfm, for the instructions on how to totally reset your tt1 & tt5 and start from there.
