Wanted to get a new camera here.
Basic uses are just going out and taking pictures of friends and so on.
Debating between the
SD990 or SD780
I am assuming that the SD990 is better?
the size of both cameras are perfect for me. knowing that the sd990 is still a little larger.
But which would be better? would the extra couple bucks towards the SD990 be worth it?
thanks!

What are you looking to do with the camera? Have you been a photographer long, or are you looking to learn about photography, or is this to capture personal and family memories?
If you're "just" looking to capture memories, and don't plan to get into photography for the photography, the SD780 will be fine. If you've got kids in sports, you might find the SD990 a bit better since it has a little more reach and it can shoot in "burst mode" faster (about 4 pictures every 3 seconds vs. the SD780's 4 pictures every 5 seconds).
If you want to really learn about photography, the SD990 is also going to be better, since it will give you direct control over things like shutter speed and aperture setting; you pretty much take whatever the SD780 offers. That's not to say that the pictures the SD780 takes will be worse; they won't - but you might want a slow exposure so your picture of your new bicyclist gives a sense of motion with a blurred and streaky background and the biker sharp ("panning" the subject); with the SDD990 that'll be easy to set up while with the SD780 it won't. And if none of this makes any sense to you, the SD780's probably the best choice.
