My flash is sooo bright. Is there a way to turn it down? Everything is washed out in my pics.
Thanks,
Tanya

*Edit: Assuming you talk about the built-in flash:*
Look for 'Flash exposure compensation' in the manual!
(Can't tell you where to set it, as I don't have a 10D)
Also, check what ISO you are using. Maybe the reason for the pictures being washed out is that your ISO is set too high (> 400).
Best regards,
Andy

If you are using an ETTL compatible flash, your camera should be able to properly regulate the flash output. Make sure:
1. FEC is not turned on.
2. You are not too close to the subject. The flash can only turn off so quick.
3. Your flash is ETTL compatible and on ETTL and not Manual.

I will try dialing down the ISO. Right now I have been semi covering the built in flash.

Yes you can turn down the flash if you are shooting in any of the creative modes. Simply press the button closest to the shutter release (look for the lightening bolt) and roll the big dial on the back to adjust the flash output + or -.
