Last weekend I took the attached photos.
As I plan to subsribe to a nature photo contest, I wonder which photo I should send in.
Which one would you choose ?

I prefer the 2nd photo. I like the way they are focused on you and it looks like they are in a tunnel of trees.

I actually like the first one better; I think it has more of a candid photo look of them walking through the woods on their own. In the second one with them all staring I get more of an impression that you, or I being the viewer, am an intruder in their area and they are just about to bolt, where as in the first one just the two are looking in what could almost be a “look both ways before crossing the clearing” action.

I also like that the deer are not as obscured by the downed branch in the first one.

I really like them though, beautiful setting, where is it?

I prefer photo no. 2. They have definitely spotted the photographer and are on full alert.
Both pictures are great. I didn't realize there were deer left in the Netherlands.

Definitely the first - It has the feel of a captured moment - and one that we haven't seen before. The second is the same old (nicely exposed) shot of some animals standing in the way..

#1 with out a doubt!

good stuff

Thank you alle for the comments.

Personally I prefer the first photo. It is more dynamic. (movement)
and I agree to the comments with the more static portrait of number 2. Although I like the composition.

As you say in some of your comments with regard to photo 2, you can feel the tension of the deer deciding wether to run away of stay.
As I don't like to stress the wild, I want to tell you that although they noticed me ?(camouflage dress) or heart the shutter clicks they decided to stay around the fallen tree and the other deer gathered with the ones looking at me. The were eating grass for quite a while and I took more photos. (Can post them if you want).
I enjoyed this very special moment, after a while they walked quietly into a low tree wood and everything looked like they were never there.
Glad that I have my camera!

I like the second one...I can understand the reasoning for picking the first though...Both of them are awesome though...

I like the symmetry of the second. The first one is very nice, but I would clone out the branch in front of the lead deer.

I understand your remark.
Cloned the branch away, but the photo is no real anymore.
The branches make the whole scene more natural.
Thank you for your reply

#1 for sure. It has more action, a sense of motion. #2 looks like it could have been taken in a zoo. #1 is a great shot.

Both lovely shots. To my mind I think they've spotted you in the first shot too. Personally I prefer the second. With the setting I would disagree with the comment about being taken in a zoo, looks a fabulous place. Have you considered cropping the second to a portrait aspect? Just a thought. Again, both nice shots.

It is called bad luck . . . mostly it follows me. I guess it took the day off and took up with you, lol. Parts of each photo are best. The Dear are clear in one, but running . They are standing nicely for you in two, but in front of that dead branch. Of the two I like the second. Dear on the run makes my heart race. Those whom stand relax me.

But then what do I no.

I am drawn to #1....the object deer are not as obscured and are caught in a natural movement. I like both of them, though.
