Well, after terrible, terrible luck with the HP LP2475w monitor I'm in need of a replacement. I went through a total of 6, yes SIX displays which all had the pink-to-green color shift issue. Otherwise, fantastic display and fantastic customer service. They agreed to finally refund me my money, so I need to find a worthy editing display with no uniformity issues.

What I'm looking towards now are the following.

Dell 2209WA

Seems to be the new king on the street. E-IPS panel, which is important to me as accuracy is priority. My HP's IPS panel was great, save for the color cast. Didn't really care for the Wide Gamut, as I don't think I would take full advantage of it. I print some at home, but was discouraged due to my monitor situation. I'd mainly be looking to ship to MPIX.

Seems like a logical choice, especially at the price, but would I miss the extra 2" ? I sit about 1.5' to 2' away from the display, so I guess it wouldn't be too much of a loss. I would be using it in conjunction with my 15" MBP LCD. Good display so it seems.

NEC LCD2490WUXI

Another new LCD with great reviews...at a price. About $350 more than the HP display. NEC seems to be a well regarded and trusted brand in the professional display world, so it needs to be an option. Not too sure I would enjoy spending the extra coin, but if it's totally worth it I would consider it.

Apple 24" Cinema Display

Sounds like the absolute perfect display on paper. IPS panel, all the cool USB hookups, Attractive aesthetics, sticking with one brand....BUT....glossy screen. Would I really be annoyed at the gloss screen vs. a matte screen? Not sure. I've never owned glossy, only matte. The 23" ACD seems like the best they offered, but it's disco'd and I'm not crazy on buying a used unit. Also, the 24" ACD is about $150 more than the HP with an Apple student discount. Apple products have done me well, and I've seen many photogs swear by these panels regardless of the glossy screen.

Any opinions or suggestions? I'd like to stick with an IPS panel unless someone has a solid reason not to (not trying to sound mean spirited, but it types that way :lol: )

I'm not sure if hanspree has a 24" model but there moniters are really good IMO, i wouldn't recommend the apple one unless you want to pay just for the logo, its not that good of a monitor compared to the dell.

If i were to choose one from your list i would go with the dell for sure

I've been extremely pleased with my 2209WA, especially when I consider how little I payed for it compared to some of the other IPS monitors out there. I have a 19" widescreen at work and had a 19" at home. The 22" is much nicer to have. I don't think I am missing anything by not having a 24". Before thsi monito I had come to the conclusion that I was going to have to stick to my 19" for a while as I could not justify the $400-$500 price tag for a new monitor. But at $220, I couldn't pass it up.

I have a 24" iMac and was just as frightened by the glossy screens as you are, but to be honest I prefer it now I'm used to it. It certainly does make images look beautiful.

I had the 23 Apple Cinema display (aluminum) and it completely pales in comparison next to the NEC 2690 series that I picked up. It's not even funny, even when properly cal'd. The apple can't display true red or blue colors, most of the time the ACD 23 puts them out as orangy. There's not enough color depth going on.

With apple, you get the logo and the fancy case and expensive box packaging/printing. With NEC, they spend the money on the monitor, not on fancy boxes.

The warranty usually is a good clue as to it's build quality. Apple is 1 year, NEC is four years.

Now before any of the apple fans start to get defensive, take a apple monitor and then compare it side by side to the high end NEC or Eizo offerings. I was thoroughly disappointed in my ACD 23.

ACD 23" was considered pretty pathetic, low sharpness, poor gamut, etc. It wasn't even a match for the Dell 2408WFP, let alone a high end NEC or EIZO. ACD 24" has much better reviews though, even with a glossy screen finish.

I just got the 2209WA today. I had an ACD 20" that crapped out on me a month ago, and since then I've been using an old dell 1703 monitor. This new 22" is pretty huge, and looks very nice. I got it for $220 and am very pleased I decided to not spend more and get a 24". Sitting 2ft away, it is definitely big enough and I see no need to go larger.

Dell has a new 24" IPS display (http://www.dell.com/us/en/dfo/peripherals/monitor-dell-u2410/pd.aspx?refid=monitor-dell-u2410&s=dfo)with 12 bit internal LUT, the U2410. I think I know what I want for Christmas!

Meanwhile the Dell 2408WFP (http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_2408wfp.htm) remains a great performer.

There's actually not much listed on Apples "paper" for the 24. Doesn't mention the amount of Adobe RGB space covered, if it has a 10 bit or greater LUT, whether it's ddc programmable, etc. Also, the 1 year warranty tells me that they're not too confident about their monitors lasting a long time. I had my 23 ACD quit shortly after the warranty.

Since you listed a 22 inch monitor, I would recommend the NEC P221W. It's priced right at 400 (probably 409 or so) through Provantage.com - maxes out at 1650x1080 if I remember correctly. BUT, it has a 3 year warranty, 10 bit LUT that is DDC programmable through their spectraview II software. A great little monitor.

Or you can go with the Dells, but I'm not sure as to their LUT being easily programmed. The U2410 has favorable feedback though.

I love my HP lp2475w, but I am very interested in the new dell 24" IPS display. If I decide to make the move to dual 24" displays, I'm probably going to grab one.
