Hi,

Figured I'd ask here. My girlfriend needs a new camera, her sd950 was stolen. I have convinced her to get something that shoots wider that what she had since she takes a lot of shots indoors and partying with friends. We are comparing the SD960, SX200 and SD880. Any ideas which is better iq wise? I've searched the web already but value the opinions here as well.

I read lots of good things about the 960 and almost bought it, but went with 780 because it has a viewfinder. That might not matter to her.

Yup, you don't always need the viewfinder, but it sure comes in handy those times when you do. It's on so few cameras I'd guess in the future the viewfinder will disappear.

You may want to consider the SD880IS

It has 28mm wide angle and a 3 inch LCD screen (largest available from Canon I believe). I got my wife its predecessor (SD870IS) and she loves it. Great for indoor snapshots and the large LCD screen makes showing the photos to friends very easy.

We went and looked at the SD880 yesterday and compared it to the other two as they had all three in hand at Fry's. She likes the ergonomics of the SD990 the best since it's closest to the SD950 she had. I have convinced her that wider is better (28mm) though so "today" it's kinda between the SD880 and SD960- I will go and read some comparisons but to me, for $30 more I would get the SD960 just for the HD video.

The HD video on our 780IS was worth it to us as well. It's not as good as our dedicated HD camcorder, but it's still really good.
