Each luminaria was dedicated to either a cancer survivor or victim.

Very nice! The angle makes it very interesting indeed. You were definitely thinking outside the bag. Can you share the technical data on the shot?

Thanks for the comment Dave. The luminaria were set up around the inside of a 1/4 mile running track. It was pitch dark except for the luminaria.

Probably because at f2.8 on an SLR the front bag would probably only be in focus on the forward edge and this appears to be sharp all the way back. That's one of the reason I asked for the technical specs on the photo. Getting that kind of DOF is difficult in low light. I see Pepe is using a Canon S70 and I have no idea what impact that might have on the image. It is effective though.

I focused on a bag about middle of the frame, and let the camera do the rest. I was supprised that the front bags were still in focus. I don't really know how the S70 settings relate to one of the SLR models. I would like to know so I can convert some seting I see on here to work with my camera.

Great shot and depth of field. Looks like you could just walk into the shot.

Check: http://www.luminous-landscape.com/tutorials/understanding-series/dof.shtml

The very end of the article explains what's going on quite well.

Ok Pepe, I love this shot, great colors and DoF, but I have....3 problems with it, don't hate me! :o

1) I feel the need to crop the little half inch of bag off the right, so the first bag you see is a full one.
2) I also feel the need to crop some of the bottom off, so the bags aren't smack dab in the middle..(that came naturally after cropping the right sde off...gotta retain the photographic shape (rectangluar))
3) There's a reddish blob in the middle of the pic...stamp it out?

Ehh this is what I came up with, but props to you for the original shot! :p

Thanks for all the comments.
I like your crop Arsonist. The original was uncropped. I think the red blob is a person walking on the track during the shot. I didn't clean up the background very carefully the first time.
