correct me if i'm wrong but i thought a couple of you guys recommended using the CU with chimp cage.
today i looked at the CU and both the skin and regular chimp cage. unless there is a trick i'd say both chimp cages were too wide to mount on the CU belt.
am i missing something here?
thanx :D.

It fits. You need to open the velcro and then tuck the side flaps in before slipping the whole flap through the belt rail. After it is through, open the flaps and reattach to the proper position on the CC.

Both Chimp Cage fit on the belt. Skin one will even fit neatly inside back pocket when collapsed.

Jason -- thanx. the one thing i find very attractive about the skin system is it compactness. are you still making the move?

I use the standard CC. I like the amount of padding. Also, the padding sleeve in the CC comes out if you don't want to use during a specific situation.

I think I'm done, well, almost.;)
I have to make decision on WhipItOut. I'm not convinced that Skin 75 Pop Down is better solution for me. I can extend Skin Chimp Cage to hold long lenses with tripod collar if needed.
Pro Belt is pretty worn out but I'm not sure Skin Belt is comfortable enough for me.
CU with Skin Chimp Cage is certainly good combination for 1 series users. Once the camera is out and not going back into the bag for extended period of time, you can collapse it and put it into the back pocket.
I'm a 5D user so I don't need Chimp Cage most of times but I still carry it collapsed. Skin modules are so light you don't notice the weight or the bulk.
I carry 5D +24-70, 16-35, 100-400 and 220EX in CU. Chimp Cage is used for when I need to use 5D with Battery Grip.

Wow ... how do you do that? Or, are you using an extra lens bag/skin with the CU to hold all 3 lenses with 5D.

CU alone will hold 5D+24-70, 16-35 and 100-400 (or 70-200/2.8 IS) plus side pocket can hold 580EX. It is probably most versatile bag I ever owned. Only drawback, it is one ugly bag especially if you start adding modules.

wow. the CU didn't look like it would hold all that but i'll take your word for it :D. i always have one camera around my neck so i would need to carry 2 lenses and my other 1d, as well as some accessories.
hmmmmmmmm :D.....

Still wondering HOW you do that! I can get the 5D mounted to a mid-size lens and a longer lens in at the same time ... but where do you put the 3rd mid size lens?
I guess I normally have a 5D mounted to a 24-70 or 24-105, and a 70-200/4 vertically next to it. I do have a flash (also vertical) which could be moved to a side pocket if I could also get a 17-40 inside at the same time.

Here is my typical setup. 3 lenses and 1 flash (usually 220EX) but I put 580EX to illustrate this bag's capacity. I also have TT CF wallet, WhiBal, 2 extra batteries, micro fibre cloth on front pockets. Skin Chimp Cage on back pocket minus rain cover ( I can probably fit that too but it will make bag too fat for my taste).

Wow ... that IS impressive for such a small bag.
Thanks for the photos ... that really made it crystal clear!

I'm going backpacking for 18 days and need to fit everything in my carry on! Leaving this Friday! Please help!
I'm planning on bringing my 7d, canon 28-135mm kit lens, sigma 10-20mm, and canon 50mm 1.8f along with 430II EX and would like to fit this all in the CU... I also have a Velbon ultra luxi L travel tripod thats about 15in long just under 3 lb.
Tripod has a small carry case that I could carry on as personal item. I can strap it on the side using the water bottle holder and bungee to a strap on side for walking about. I was thinking I could maybe pack my camera gear in the CU in my carry on backpack with my minimal clothes around it as extra padding (no checked bags remember). We do not want to check any bags and my goal is to be able to travel with just one bag etc... My neck/shoulders get sore too so I was thinking the CU would be great and not be too bulky if I did have my backpack on back and the cu in front when needing to walk about in-between city's or needing to carry all our stuff with us for a day if needing to check out and still manage to take pictures and not over burden myself and enjoy my first trip to Europe. I got the eBags Mother Lode TLS Weekender Convertible for my main backpack before getting all my gear for my 7D. We are on a budget and the cu is already more then what we want to spend.
I tried the lowepro Inverse 200 AW but it was too bulky feeling, sagged and the strap to add stability across the body was too long even when shortened all the way... I'm about 5'6, 122 lb. if the strap was about 3 in. shorter it may have helped... but there's a lot of weight in that waist pack ant it pulls away from the body and the waist buckle unsnapped when testing it out. Not a good sign. I have not tried the CU yet but think the camera store here has it.
SO What would you suggest??? Please help I'm leaving in 4days! Yikes! and Yea! Thanks so much in advance! bw!

Oops, I also want to be able to have a lens mounted on the camera when stored in bag. Would this be safe with either the 10-20mm or 28-135mm on camera (I plan on using these the most, the 50mm for later in low light and inside museums etc.) 430II ex in case in side pouch? I want to be able to use one bag to work from with ease and for storage/protection/ transportation. I will always have my camera bag with me but I will not always have to carry my backpack around. THANK YOU FOR reading and thoughtful response!

Well, I have an embarrassing :o :o collection of camera bags, most of them Think Tank and Domke, and many of them never used (the true sign of a bagaholic  ). They all seem important to own and keep for various situations which have yet to materialize.
When I stop to consider which is my favorite bag, I come up with a surprisingly long list of the bags I have.
However, when I actually consider which is my most USED bag, I am always surprised to discover it is the lowly Think Tank "Change Up". It seems to be just the right size for lugging around on vacation day walks, and I like being able to change the way I carry it to distribute the load during the day. On travel days, it tucks neatly into my carry-on roller so it isn't a problem with airline restrictions. I use it without the removable padded insert shell so it conforms better and is less bulky.
Even when using it as a shoulder bag, I usually keep one of the wide belt sections out as an "attach point" for the shoulder-strap which I find more comfortable. I can also keep a small bag for P&S, cellphone, and other small stuff on that belt section. If it gets too heavy on my shoulder, I simply deploy the remainder of the belt and shift the weight to my hips, using the shoulder strap just to keep it from sliding down my legs as I walk (too much gut ... not enough butt).
The "Change Up" works great for me...
Enjoy your trip!

Howard, I'm in the same group--a bagaholic.
ThinkTank hasn't caught on yet here amongst camera retailers; the cost is prohibitively expensive too.
I appreciate your comments on the Change Up. I'll take a look when I get a chance. I bet I have a similar shape, so truly helpful!

I ended up getting the thinktank cu also! I need to play around with the straps to figure out the variations and what is most comfortable. If you have any pic/or suggestions please send them my way! Thanks! :)
