The view would have been better had a season's worth of scrapes and smudges been wiped off the glass, but at least it was worth the $10 to sit right behind the goal line for this minor-league game.

As mentioned in the first message, "The view would have been better had a season's worth of scrapes and smudges been wiped off the glass." Yes, the glass was that dirty, even through the cleanest part. Sadly, there was no way to talk the home team into letting someone onto the ice with a large roll of toweling paper and a larger bottle of glass cleaner. :(
Why that location? Best low-level spot available, and a good place to grab pucks from high shots that trickled down the end zone netting and behind the glass.
1/200 for most of the images, by the way.

1/200 is way too slow for this level of hockey. I shoot a ton of minor hockey and never go below 1/400. If your rink lighting and/or equipment can not get you to that level, then I'd suggest leaving camera at home and just enjoying game.
My basic settings for hockey include:
-Shoot in manual mode, RAW
-1/400 or 1/500 shutter or better if light allows
-f2.8 or f3.2 aperture if your lens supports it and +2/3 or 1 overexposure
- ISO 1600 or even 3200 depending on rink light. If you have NHL quality lighting then you may be able to get away with ISO 800
In almost all cases, with these settings, I will still need to do some post processing to boost exposure, especially in minor hockey rinks. That is why I shoot RAW as I can get away with more PP as needed.
Cheers!

Even through glass you defantly can capture some decent action one of my first games was through glass, Defantly bump up the shutter to at least 1/500th.
Here are a couple of shots on my first hockey shoot, I've learned so much since than and both of these were shot through the glass.
