I currently use blogspot, but my photos are smaller looking when I even put them as "large" in editing. Is there something I should be doing differently to make larger photos? Pay for it?
Also, would wordpress be better for putting photos on a blog?
I like to have a free blog for now.

Hi Allison - I have the same "dilemma."
The short answer is that I don't know how to make them larger, within the "templated" framework of blogspot. That being said, I have a suspicion that perhaps the size is adjustable by modifying the html code. Since I can't code, it's beyond me. But it is very easy to view the code when composing new posts.
I believe Word Press offers more image options, but I've never used it. It's quite popular and I know a lot of folks are happy with it. Good luck - I'll be interested to see what people suggest here.:D - Stu

I use wordpress myself (hosted on my own webspace/domains), you can add images of any size you like but...
The real limit on the size of the images is imposed by the theme you use inside WordPress.
If the theme has a fixed width design then the images will have to conform to some sort of maximum width otherwise they will break the layout of the page.
If the theme uses a fluid/stretchy theme (fills the window no matter what size the window is) then the limit would be a size that allows the page to display correctly on the average sized desktop (which is probably still 1024 * 768, or perhaps 1440 * 900 for 19" widescreen LCD's).

If you're using Blogger, some themes stretch, some don't. You can manipulate the HTML on the ones that don't to make them stretch, or to set them to a certain width. See this post here: http://www.dgrin.com/showpost.php?p=943120&postcount=217
I have my blogs set to a fixed width, so I can post pictures that are 600px on the long end without being chopped off.
Hope that helps. :)

Blogger downsizes the thumbnails pretty small, if you click on the small image in the blog post, you can see a bigger one.
I did have a few templates once that allowed a 1024 wide image, but I had to host them on photobucket and embed. There is no way around having blogger downsize your images to 600px

I have wordpress on my server and with the right theme, you can have some pretty big pics.
If you're going to switch to wordpress, these are two that seem to be very popular...
ProPhoto Blogs - http://www.prophotoblogs.com/
Tofurious Blog Theme - http://www.tofurious.com/category/professional-photographer-blog-theme/
Both are very customizable...
I have the Tofurious one at the moment and plan to switch to a ProPhoto one soon.
