Are the rebates sometimes indicative of what is about to be upgraded? In other words, are we seeing a lot of rebates on the 50D to clear them out for the 60D?

negative...Its only a US rebate sorry mate.

The camera stores jack the prices up and "claims" that they have applied the instant rebate. Ex: Ritzcamera.com is doing it right now.

It just came out. Heck, most stores are having problems keeping it in stock. Why would you expect it to already be on the list?

I'm not sure. I mean rebates in the past did not indicate changes or new models. However, someone did post on the canonrumours site that the 24-70 might be due for a change and something about the 70-200 2.8 IS. Who knows though...

I just seen this too. As if lenses are not hard enough to get anyway. Most of what I am after has been sold out or on back order for a while
