ok so im new to DSLR photography, and i've always wondered how pictures like this are taken, where a certain area is lit up and then it all fades into a black background

The word is Vignette (Vin-Yet) and it can be acheived a few different ways:

- Very careful lighting where spill beyond the subject is tightly controlled
- Shooting certain lenses wide open
- It can be added in post processing

My guess is two big soft boxes above and slightly to each side of the car. Flash is overpowering ambient.

[Edit: Looking at it again there would probably have to be more than two flashes in order to light the beams]
