View Full Version : How to sell to postcard vendors ?

I have a landscape shot (possibly more) that is good enough to be on a postcard. I was wondering if anybody could tell me how I might sell a landscape shot to a postcard vendor ? Perhaps the real question is; where do postcard vendors/printers get the images from ? Are they likely to buy from an unknown source ? How do I find them ?

There is a book available, at least in the US, that lists all of the information for companies that buy/pay for usage of images. I don't remember the title at this moment, but if no one else posts it I will when I have a chance to check on it. It is released each year with up to date information.

Perhaps the book is Photographer's Market, 2,000 Places to Sell Your Photographs. Editor Donna Poehner.

Frankly, I am not impressed with the book, although I have never tried to deal with postcard photos.

I made a list of twenty publications that I was interested in providing my photographs for, and 19 of them were not even listed in the book.

Even if you do find a publisher that does postcards, they probably will not want to fool around with a photographer that has one photo. However, if you had fifty first-class photos that they liked, they might pick out 25 and try to make you a deal on those.

Also, keep in mind that they don't give a damn about how difficult it was for you to get the shot, or how technically perfect it is, or any of that. All they care about is whether it will look good enough, printed by their system, to sell many thousands of cards.
