OK, here is my routine. I take all my gear in my camera bag to wherever I'm going and set up a "center of operations". I then pull out my Rebel XT and a couple of lenses I plan on using and place them in a shoulder bag which has straps around my abdomen to hold it secure as I walk and shoot. My problem is that while my lenses have those handy soft cases to prevent them from getting scratched, I have not found a similar item for my XT. I just purchased one of the canon leather semi-hard cases, thinking this would protect the camera body from scratches. When it came in today, it is too large for the XT. It is probably made for the 300d or 20d.

What would you recommend me trying? I just need something which will prevent scratching while carrying loose in a bag. It needs to be something I can remove fairly quickly.

I saw something from op-tech. It is a neoprene thingy which acts sort of like a glove for the camera. This looks ideal. Has anyone tried one of these?

Your opinions are appreciated.

are you using a real camera bag w/ adjustable padded compartments (i.e. lowepro, crumpler, domke, tamrac, etc.) because you can adjust the velcro padded walls to perfectly separate your camera from everything else so it's isolated during travel.

That is how my main camera bag is outfitted, yes. The shoulder bag I use is just your typical, non-divided carry-around bag. I like it because of the combined ab and shoulder straps. It is more of a hiking pack.

I might have to go with another camera, divided-type bag. But I sure love the one I'm using now. If I can just find some way to protect my camera from getting scratched.

Thanks,

Keith

If all else fails, I might go this route!

In the UK you can buy Novoflex Wraps in different sizes. I don't know if they are available elsewhere.

Crumpler and Lowepro both make camera shoulder bags that have both the shoulder strap and waist/chest harness. Why not look into getting one of these?

For me, those fitted camera pouches/hard cases are too much of a hassle to use.

I have not seen any of these. Do you know the name? I will check into them.

Thanks for the info.

You can get the inserts (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=NavBar&A=search&Q=&ci=4382) used in Domke bags separately. There are 1, 2, 3, and 4-compartment versions in various configurations to suit all needs. I alternate between a 4-compartment square and 3-compartment square in my Ren Faire haversack, depending on what I'm carrying.
