I found it in my garden this morning. It kind of looks like a hornet to me. Any experts out there?

Great capture!

It's not like the hornets we have here. My guess is that it's not a bee, but I'm no entomologist.

It looks to me like a hoverfly (Syrphidae), a fly which mimics wasps and bees. Main distinction between flies and other insects is a single pair of wings. Very nice photo.

Theres some info / photos of hoverflies here

So that's how it's called - hoverfly... I knew the name, but in bulgarian... So couldn't answer. Thanks, Steve!

RockOne is right on the money! I've also seen them called Beeflies. Nice capture BTW.

Here in Bulgaria, the direct translation is wasp-like fly :)

Sounds like a good description :-). We get them around here, in the warmer months, but they are difficult to photograph, as they are small, quick, and able to fly in just about any direction.

Nice shot, looks like a wasp to me. I remember when I was a little kid, taking a leak into a hole by a creek and all of the sudden a bunch of things that looked just like that thing on the flower came out of that hole, apparently very angry about something and started chasing me and my friend. I was on a bicycle and managed to get away with only a few stings, but my poor friend was on his unicycle and had a tougher time getting away quickly.

Woah! I love the shot, and I think it is one of those mimic type things.
