Is there a benefit to using extension tubes with my 100-400L lens or should they just be used with a macro like my 100mm. I have found I can get nice flower shots with good dof hand held with my 100-400 but I have to be 6ft away to focus. Just wonder if a tube or tubes would make a difference?
Thanks - Paul

Tubes can be useful on telephoto lenses just allowing you to focus a bit closer. I often use them on my 200mm for dragonflies and butterflies

I use the 3 Kenko tubes on my 100-400L lens. At MWD of around 13 cm at 100mm, I get a magnification of about 0.8 (compared to the max. magnification of the lenses of 0.2 without the tubes). On the other end, with 3 tubes on at 400mm, I can focus as far as about 3 meters. I have many pics taken this way on my site at www.marcojona.com. Look into the "News" chapter
