This is my very first attempt at photography. This is a picture I took of my daughter this past weekend with my new canon 40D. I am as new as the newbies come so be gentle. :-) I spent about a year reading books and forums about photography before taking a crack at it. I hope you guys like it. C&C appreciated.

Welcome!
- Composition is great!
- Love the colors, contrasting texture, shapes and lines.
- Beautiful girl - you got her to smile in a relaxed, natural way, and look at your camera.
- looks sharp and well focused.
You're on your way to greatness!

Welcome to POTN and congrats on the new camera. The shot itself is very nice. The soft feeling to it is perfect for a child. You want to keep the eyes always in sharp crisp focus.

thank you for all the encouraging words. Any constructive criticism is appreciated as well. As I said I am learning and looking to get better ahead of the normal learning curve.

Welcome to potn. You have done very well for you first go at photography. I do like the softness added to the pic, but as said above always make sure the eyes are sharp when applying it. The only thing i could really think that would make this shot any better would possibly be to boost the colors just a tad. It would make the picture pop more.

I agree that this is a nice shot.. I think the comp is nice except I am not a fan of cutting the limbs at the joints.. It isn't as bad with this shot but just one of my nit picky pet peeves.. Each shots can be handled different and like I said it isn't as big of a deal on this shot.. I like the softness and you did a good job at keeping eyes pretty sharp.. The one thing I wish I would have done was master clean processing and then moved on to harder things like soft blurs and textures.. You did really good for a 1st time. TFS and welcome to POTN..

Hey this is really nice. I agree with the above. I wouldn't cut off the elbows. But really a very nice shot!
